1. Best sentence of the century: "I always knew that a geek would make a great husband,"
Goddamned right, lady. There is no greater truth that will be said in the next 100 years.

If only all women were as smart as that woman, and not obsessed about irrlevant bullshit, there would be a lot more happy women. And happy geeks. And better marriages.

Aren't generalities great?

4. I didn't say anything about a violent geek.
I didn't think it was a requirement to add as a caveat a litany of every possible human foible that one might encounter in someone else.

I'm sorry for your experience, but I stand by my generality which is, and perhaps I should have been more diligent about specifically naming it as such, clearly a generality and not meant for consumption in specific ways.

next time I'll be more clear that when I'm speaking of a potential mate, I'm speaking of non-violent, non-abusive, non-alcoholic, non-drug-addicted, non-pedophile, non-financially-immature, non-adulterous, non-lying, non-felonious, non-insane, non-selfish, non-cannibalistic, non-murderous, non-cancerous, non-fattening, and non-republican.

6. That's right! And non-non-reading, non-douchebag, and non-George Bush.

8. I'm a geek, and I'd like to think I'm a decent husband
I'm smart enough to have conned two attractive women into marrying me. So, I'd have to agree with you there on the grounds that neither my wife, or my ex-wife, have had to do much housework and I would think most women would rate that as pretty good.

Unfortunately, as redqueen noted, there are bad apples in every bunch.

10. I wish I had gone to high school with somebody like you then
I was also voted "Shyest" in my class in both high school & junior high. So, I was not exactly somebody who was throwing himself at the girls.

11. Hah... I think I scared em, actually.
Nobody ever hit on me, ever. So I was the one approaching guys and getting the freaked out look and then the quick walking away thing. That or the mocking. I think I liked the mocking more, actually. At least then there's talking.

12. in small town CT in the early to mid 80s
It was still extremely rare for any girls to pursue boys. Maybe the star athlete would get pursued, but that was about it. And, the same held true in college in the late 80s... so, I did not have my first date until the 2nd half of my sophomore year in college and no real girlfriend until the beginning of my senior year (for all of 6 weeks!)
