That he knew of.

16. Number one: is he able to write in complete sentences? |
|
I'll forgive a common spelling error but expect more than basic writing skills in my man. In fact I won't look twice at the profile of a man who uses numbers in lieu of words ("2" for "to") or who apparently struggles to express himself in written form.

1. A photo that doesn't make him look like a dork. (Trying to look like a cowboy when you live in Minneapolis, not effective)
2. Originality--His ad doesn't sound like a bunch of clichés from every other guy's ad
3. No obnoxious physical requirements for a potential partner. (I've actually seen "a petite redhead dress size 6 to 8" and "under 35"--from a guy who's over 50, and "Asian or Latina women only") That kind of content makes women wonder whether he has matured emotionally since age, oh, about 13.
4. Not trying to arouse pity. ("Shy, lonely" makes most women think, "Oh no, one of those whining whipped puppy types." "Initially shy, but worth knowing because of..." is a much better way to indicate that he won't initially come off as the life of the party.)
5. Not bragging about his material possessions or his finances. It attracts gold diggers and makes a non-greedy woman wonder whether that's all he has to offer.
6. Self-knowledge revealed with honesty and humor.

I don't know a lot of women who are attracted to a guy's pecs. Maybe Ms. Gym Rat would be, but most are not. In fact, the Mr. Universe look is a turnoff in most cases.
I've had numerous discussions over the years with women friends, and we're pretty much agreed that we like eyes (with wicked glints that indicate intelligence and humor), sweet smiles, and cute butts.

Not that I have anything against a male chests but it seems sleezy somehow. The essay part has to indicate that the man has some concept of the rules of language. The mention of Harleys, Nascar, Corvette (or what ever car they're trying to show off with). God, actually the list of repulsive things in personal ads is so lengthy I don't think I could even mention it all in one day... I used to believe that most of the people on dating sites were normal people who just had difficulty meeting singles. I still believe there are normal people there but they're few and far between.
