Crown Royal vs Seagram's VO
If you drink Canadian whiskey, can you really tell the difference between Crown and VO?

Down here, Crown is kind of a prestige thing.
Like Chivas used to be years ago.

Ordinarily I drink Scotch, but I can't really tell the diff between Crown and VO.
Crown is MUCH more expensive.
I think you're just paying for a fancy bottle in the blue velvet bag.
And a 'classy'(?) advertising program.

I've refilled a Crown bottle with VO before with no complaints from the imbibers.
I know, that's REALLY cheap.
:-(

BTW, to me Canadian tastes halfway between Scotch and bourbon, leaning a little closer to bourbon.

1. I don't drink whiskey of any kind. I think it has something to do with
the Jack Daniel days of my misspent youth. Boy, those were good times. Too bad I can't remember them!

:hi: trof! Go ahead and refill the Crown bottle with VO - no one will notice.

3. I can't, but then I usually drink bourbon, Scotch and Irish.
Canadian is far from my first choice of whisky.

5. Be honest, now.
In a blind tasting could you really tell the difference?
Or what if both whiskeys were poured from a Crown bottle?
I can't tell the diff between Johnny Walker and 100 Pipers.
JW priced themselves out of my market.
Someone told me about 100 Pipers and I'm very happy with it.
Almost half the price.

Here's what a real Canadian drinks:

Canadian Whisky of the year, 2006. Made from nothing but rye, it's a bit different, but delicious. You gotta try it if you get the chance, it's probably a little hard to find in 'Bama. It's made right here in my home town, too, so perhaps there's a little bias. I just love it, on the rocks. It's cheap, too!

Well, Crown Royal is OK too. I've refilled the bottle myself, but I used the cheapest stuff I could find, and none of the "connoisseurs" noticed. When it's mixed with Coke or whatever, what's the diff anyway? The purple bag is an important bit of Canadiana; every Canadian kid kept his/her marbles in a "Seagram's sack." Also useful for Scrabble tiles, made the game a lot easier, or for tying over the dog's or cat's head if you were a mean widdow kid. Not me, of course.

edit: Damn it, now I have to have a glass!

7. Haven't drank Crown for many years
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 10:37 PM by smtpgirl
about 27 years ago, went to a party and had crown & 7, got so sick, never touched bourbon or whiskey ever again.

The only liquor I drink is vodka, and that is a rarity.

I can definitely tell bourbon/whisky from scotch any day.

My sister & dad are scotch drinkers, so most times when I give presents to them, it is a single malt scotch. They can tell the differences from the different brands of scotch that I have given them through the years.

Scotch is way better than bourbon/whiskey.

8. I'm not a real pilot: No whiskey or beer here, ever!

Just wine. We had a jazz trio at Auburn (piano, drums, bass .. I was bass-man) called the Wine-Heads (or, for certain gigs, the London Symphony Orchestra - LSO: Larry London, Sid Symphony, and Oliver Orchestra). Our diddy was this ..

We are the wine-heads,
The wine-heads are we.
We never accept responsibility

We have a band;
it's the best in the land.
We think you'll aggggggreeeeeee!

Folks, the London Symphony Orchestra!

On edit: I dig because U of Alabemer had what? The Cavaliers? Oh, we were all Auburn Knights, too!

9. Tough choice. Crown is WAY overrated IMHO...
... but VO ain't one of my favorites either. I guess I would pick VO, just because I can't stand those douche bags that wave their Crown around like it gives them class or something.
