You Can't Buy A Horse In Virginia Until Monday Due To Herpes Outbreak
:rofl:

<snip>

State officials have cancelled all public horse sales and auctions throughout Virginia. The move is part of continuing efforts to stop the spread of the highly contagious equine herpes virus.

Last week, officials placed a quarantine on ten horse facilities in northern Virginia.

The Virginia Department of Agriculture says five horses have tested positive for the virus, which attacks the respiratory system and is spread from infected horses through nasal fluids and bodily secretions.

The virus poses no known health threat to humans, but it can be spread by people through clothing, shoes and equipment. The ban on sales was ordered by the state veterinarian.

It remains in effect through Monday.

8. Dang! And I absolutely NEED a horse
by Saturday. Or else.

Guess I'll just have to go get a bootleg horse in Maryland and smuggle it across the Potomac.

And if the cops stop me, I'll just show them the critter's rear end and tell them I'm a covert agent taking Dick Cheney to a new undisclosed location.

9. Matcom, you're developing some fans in my office
I wasn't kidding when I said I look for your news reports before I even bother to open my copy of the Washington Post. I usually pass your stories around the office, and finally (after this horse story) someone asked me what my source was. The person in question is a hardcore right-winger, so I expected to take a ration of shit when I told him. Instead he shrugged his shoulders and said "Democrat, huh? Well, there had to be a cool one sooner or later." Then he walked off.

If you knew this guy and how he sounds (like Coulter in every way, shape and form), you'd know this was high praise from him.

14. "And remember, even nice horses can get the disease."
Some wag said that years ago when there was an outbreak of this among the famous Lipizzaners.
