Ellen Degeneres on the cover of W magazine |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-01-07 11:25 AM by movie_girl99
my daughter has a subscription to W and the latest one arrived yesterday. Ellen is on the cover and inside is an interview with several other pics of her. She looks so different. She's all glammed up in the mag looking quite gorgeous.

3. I like the part with the elephant and the garden hose |

"I suggest that people do this at home. Just hose the kids off. Just take 'em out side and turn the hose on 'em.

4. I'd say she's bounced back from her failed sitcom by now, wouldn't you? |
|
Her own talk show, lots of endorsements, hosting the Oscars. My kid loves her.
And she did it all her way.

7. I agree that it wasn't always great, but I don't think a sitcom that was on for five years |
|
could be called a failure. It was just winding down, for a long time, for a very long time. :)

9. I wasn't judging the quality of the show |
|
I always liked it, as much as I liked anything on television. I thought the coming out episode was a true masterpiece. I'm just saying that in terms of her career, the show ended in failure and branded her that way. That's why I'm so impressed by her comeback.
She's a Coast kid. She was born in New Orleans and had relatives in Pass Christian, where I went to school. I love her dearly, wish I had met her at some point in my life. I didn't mean anything I meant to be a criticism of her.

12. Oh I didn't think you were criticizing her, I just am surprised that you think |
|
that she was branded as a failure because of the show. In my mind, she was elevated to new recognition because of the show and she was branded as a pioneer because of the coming out episode. All good things. I think the show did decline and was spotty in quality, but it was a milestone sitcom.
Everything she's done since is wonderful and amazing, and I'm thrilled for her success, but I don't consider any of her prior work a failure and I don't really see her current success as a comeback.

Her show failed, she gained a lot of respect for it (plus a lot of criticism from certain groups), but all in all, she was labeled as someone whose show had failed. When she tried a second sitcom in 2001, it failed, too. So it's impressive that she is on such a career high right now--Emmys for her talk show, a new fan base, more widespread audiences which allow her to host the Oscars (and make fundie heads explode). That's not easy in Hollywood Land.

10. Here's an amusing tidbit I never knew about her, from IMDB. |
|
Sister of Vance DeGeneres ...(who) was "Mr. Hands" in "Saturday Night Live" (1975)'s "Mr. Bill" short films.

Her comedy is a refreshing change to a lot of popular comedians out there; when I watch some of them, I feel like I've been assaulted rather than entertained. I don't have anything against vulgarity in the right hands, but not all the time everywhere.
