Songs ruined by current events
Fishbone's "Party at Ground Zero", haven't heard it on the radio since 9/11

The Bottle Rockets "The Bar's On Fire", not amusing after the Rhode Island fire

Was (not Was) "I Feel Better than James Brown." Well . . .

Any others?

1. I have not stopped listening to those, but I know what you mean
"Rock The Casbah" - which some righties have decided is a conservative song and use it to celebrate killing brown people in the ME.... Kind of like their embrace of "Born in the USA" in the 80's.

It should not surprise me though that once again they just don't get it.

3. I liked how Springsteen reacted to Reagan using Born in the USA
He said something like this at a concert: "I hear the President's a fan. I wonder which albums he's been listening to, apparently not this one" Then he played the song from Nebraska about the laid-off auto worker that shoots people during a convenience store robbery.

2. "Fire and Rain"
reminds me of 9/11 every time. Totally changed the context for me.

4. "Who is Mike Jones?" by Mike Jones
I think that guy could probably sue Ted Haggerd and make a pretty penny.

5. I dunno about "ruined"
but the album Kid A by Radiohead really reminds me of the terrorist attacks.

6. Tool's Lateralus does the same for me
I saw them in concert a couple of days before 9-11 -- and at some point on 9-11, my roommate and I were both kind of shell-shocked and listened to that album while we watched disaster and debris on TV.

That album is inextricably linked with 9-11 for me.

And oddly, some of the lyrics are strangely appropriate as well:

"I know the pieces fit
'Cause I watched them tumble down
No fault, none to blame
It doesn't mean I don't desire to
Point the finger, blame the other
Watch the temple topple over"

7. Hmmm
"If I Had a Rocket Launcher", Bruce Cockburn. Not that it got played on the radio much anyway. I don't miss it--there was something about that tune that grated on me.
