Video Games,
Edited on Sat Mar-03-07 01:41 AM by petersond
I was thinking of video games last night...I was trying to pinpoint the very first time I ever played one. I came to the conclusion, that the first game I ever played was Spiderman for the Atari system. After playing that game, my father got into Commodore's big time, BIG TIME, and I continued to play a ton of commodore cartridge games, aka Pit Stop, Wizards of War, things of that nature.

I didn't get a nintendo until...hmm, around the age of 12, and I was all about Mario, Zelda, Tiger Heli and Mike Tysons Punch Out. So my question, or query to the lounger is, what was your first game, and what games followed?

on edit:I missed a comma

on double edit:Zaxxon! I can't believe I forgot Zaxxon...one of my favorite games, I could play it for days

1. I started with the NES around age 7 with those same games.
Oh and Ninja Gaiden II. I loved that game.

I miss my original NES. Damn, my mother for selling it.

We have one at our CT cabin. I spend as much time trying to get it to work as I do playing it.

Edited on Sat Mar-03-07 01:06 AM by petersond
I didn't get it for a long though...my father had a rule for us, we could only get a new game, if we proved/showed to him that we beat the last game he got for us, and sometimes, it took us(my brothers/and I)a long time to beat games...:)

I also like Russian Attack, and Contra...

3. Get a replacement 72-pin connector and a cartridge cleaning kit on ebay.
It'll work just like new.

4. I'll have to do that.
Funny story:

This summer, a huge fucking spider was walking up the wall. I'm TERRIFIED of spiders. Normally, I'd get my stepdad, Jim, to kill it, but my parents just went to bed (but were still awake). I ran across the cabin, grabbed one of Jim's sneakers and smashed the huge spider repeatedly while yelling shit like, "Die! Motherfucker!"

Then, I go, "I hope you guys are proud, because I just killed a huge spider."

From their bedroom, I hear my mom yell, "Oh, we thought you were fixing the Nintendo again."

I got a Nintendo around 8 or 9 years old. I now have every Nintendo system except the Wii and the DS. PS2 gets played the most though.

9. My very first was my brother's Atari.
Pong. Blip. Blip. Blip. Blip.

The first of my own that I had was an NES. I had Duck Hunt, some exercise thing that came with a mat, Zelda and Tetris.

And a 7-up blob-thingie game?

And of course Mario & co.

My favorites are still the Zelda games. I like the Donkey Kongs, but the ones for the 64 and the Super NES, not the Gamecube.

10. Pac Man was the big thing when I was a kid.
I remember there was even a song about it called, "Pac Man Fever." We all sat around playing Pac Man and eating candy and having a good time. Then the Atari 2600 came out. We all rushed out to buy the Pac Man cartridge. The dots turned into rectangles and it just never beat the tabletop version of Pac Man, but later versions on later entertainment systems did. We still played that Atari version of Pac Man though, like it was the greatest thing we had ever seen. It saved more quarters for more junk food and more drinks and more of everything else we wanted. Those were good days.

16. No doubt about playing real video games,
nowadays, I'm trying to catch up on everything I missed, on Ps2. I'm a huge fan of Devil May Cry games, and RPG games that use the same style of gameplay. The GTA games were pretty good too, but I'm still rampaging on Vice City, and I havne't gotten any of the new editions. I also enjoyed the Armor Core games...I got AC2 New Age, but AC4 looks flippin sweet! The next game I get though, is Cabela's big hunt:Alaska....only because you can hunt/fish in my hometown!

I have a lot of catching up to do, myself. I've played pretty much the same few games over and over again the last couple of years because I can rarely afford new games, lol. :D

I found an English translation of Dragon Quest 5 recently and need to start on it!

18. Same here, aka $ on games.
I've been eyeballing our GameXchange for a few weeks, and a TON of the ps2 games are now, two for 10 bucks...and I've been patiently holding back, until I see games that look good...althoug, most of them look good to me(except car racing games). I usually suffer from playing the same games over/over again. I'm usually a Tekken Tag, MLB 2000, GTA III, and Madden....sometimes, I through on Medal of Honor Frontline...

19. A lot of games I've never played are uber cheap now
Last time I played GTA was Vice City with my little bro, I had a lot of fun! I'm gonna have to pick up a copy for myself one of these days. Unfortunately whenever I get extra money I end up spending it on music or phone cards instead lol.

I play mainly FF6, FF9, FF Tactics, Civilization 4, and Diablo 2. :D

and I think he has a couple of ROMs... I will check it out :)

I actually prefer the older FF's. More story and substance, whereas the recent FF's have been more about the look, you know?

I had a whole bunch of Pac Man stuff when I was a kid. A lunch box, pads of paper with Pac-Man printed on them, a pillow, pencils. I still have the little table top model arcade Pac Man game that they released. And yes, I do remember the Pac Man cartoon. I used to watch it regularly. I even played the living hell out of the Atari 2600 version of Pac Man, even though it sucked. Rumor has it that Atari actually had produced a decent version of the game, but shelved it so they could produce some crappy copy that was different enough from the original so they could avoid paying royalties. The 2600 had enough graphical capability so they could have at least produced a modestly decent version of the game as opposed to the travesty that came out. All you have to do is look at the version of Ms. Pac Man they released later. It was actually pretty decent.

At home, Space Invaders on the Atari 2600 was the first game I ever played. I still remember when I was four or five and I came downstairs and my mom was playing it on the Atari she had just purchased. Pac Man came out not much longer after that.

I still play Pac Man and Ms. Pac Man on my Playstation 2 sometimes. In fact, I tend to play them more than a lot of the new stuff that comes out. Some of it may be childhood nostalgia, but older games would give you an adrenaline rush that's not easy to find on today's graphics-heavy games. I miss that, and Pac Man was one of the best games for that.

I still run a Nintento emulator on my PC and have a ton of SNES games on here.I actually just started to replay Chrono Trigger a few nights ago.

One of my favorite games was Megamania for the Atari 2600.That and River Raid sucked up a lot of my time. :)

on edit-If you're interested you can find various emulators, including the Commodore 64,here at this site, where you can also get the roms needed to play.

My first console was the NES, and my last was the SNES. I think when I was around 14 I gave up video games except for some very rare occasions. My fave on the NES by far is Ghosts 'n' Goblins. It's why I think I tend to doubt my decisions a lot, and why I don't own any red underwear.

I loved the 2600 version of Pac Man, even if it was a little lamented...

I bought a Nintendo system in 1991 despite my love of Atari... loved it. Super Mario, Duck Hunt, Zelda... by then the platform was superseded, but I didn't care.
