my back is in pain but it's of my own doing. You on the other hand seem to be in genuine discomfort through no fault of your own. I wish you well.
I like the "keep still, take pain relief and be hopeful approach." Midol wont hurt either.
I sometimes feel like Obleo with no point, but sometimes that's the point.

take some Midol X strength. take a couple of pillows, and good thick blankie and find a bare carpetted spot on the floor. Put pillows on both sides to keep you from rolling over, and one under your head for the comfort. Sleep the whole night on the floor on your back, flat.
While you sleep your back will straighten and the disk will expand to full size (esp. any that are being squashed from daily standing) and the relief will be there when you wake up.
try it. you may be suprised.

7. I tried that once when I had chronic lower back pain |
|
As soon as I got in that position, I started laughing uncontrollably.
Also, if it's the lower back, a towel soaked and strained of water so hot you can barely stand to touch it with your hand. Place it on your lower back while you lie on your stomach. 15 minutes on, 45 off, till the pain is gone.

12. you need a chiropractor and a massage |
|
my suggestion, get around $150 sraped together. Set up a massage one day next week, followed by an initial chiropractiv visit (massage $50, chiro adjustment $20-25)
get both done...wait two days and do it again..massage, and a second adjustment to straighten everything out...My dad did this after living with back pain for 10 yrs...he couldn't believe he waited so long to end it.
