A tribute to Salin on her 20,000 post! (A picture story)
Edited on Fri Jan-09-04 03:43 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
This is an opportunity to pay homage to one of our more intellectual DU'ers

In GD on the diplomacy scale, she rates STATESMAN (woman)consistently

She takes on POLICY like nobody else with threads that are useful resources for ALL of us

Takes on major issues such as corporate corruption

And is a formidable but civil debate opponent on many many issues

Even keeps ZOMBY in line in the lounge

While maintaining her image (fostered by her midwestern sensibilities) of that of a "little angel"

So, how is it that she has been banned more times

Than her evil twin?

snicker..happened last week due to a programming error :D

34. name that community...
I lived in a community that only got its first ATM machine in 1998 (or maybe 1997)...

I was out there for about five years doing grad school (and working) on the Penninsula.

37. well... only in spirit
I moved earlier in the year.

The community is East Palo Alto. While a bit of development had already started (move the poor folks out and build slightly less expensive (compared to neighboring menlo park and palo alto) big houses for "affordable housing" for the middle class! But for the most part the community was a pocket of poverty residing along side great wealth in silicon valley. Very interesting area.

it was all brand-new malls, etc, by 1999 but they tell me that before it was all closed-down businesses...

still, I love my new home state and have NO plans on leaving it :loveya:

12. thanks pmbryant...
and you know... I believe that you were one of the first folks to help me get links to other helpful sources of information on the first go-round of the energy bill (back in spring of 2002) - sorta helped propel me into an area I had little background - but suddenly found quite compelling. Thanks! Plus - you always respond to related postings I make - letting me know that at least some people are reading my missives. :hi:

31. ah... but DU was the trigger - and fuel - and the vehicle.
It was another DUer that pointed me to the PUHCA issue - and the Public Citizen action alert. As I read - in my head I could see the overlapping of several issues though noone in the press talked about it that way (the energy taskforce, the california energy crisis that was finally being revealed, the operatings of enron that allowed enron to happen in the first place - and how ALL related to the energy bill.) But I wasn't sure how they fit - so I turned to duers to help do some digging and look across information. The resources that folks around here find - amazing. Well you know the rest... We are collectively much more effective than any of our sum parts. :D Thanks Again!

Salin Popcorn, anyone?

In all those threads
About corporate sleaze
She minds her manners
With Thank You and Please

With eloquence, grace,
And sheer brain power
She keeps above the fray
Without even a glower

I am awed by her patient
Earnest demeanor
Even when people
Act like a wiener!

So here is to Salin
A rock and a pillar
Whose 20,000 posts
Are pure freeper killer!

those kind words mean a lot. Don't know that it is class... as much as the "midwestern sensibilities" that NSMA and I often joke about... while it can get wild and woolly in this joint - there is so much raw talent, curiousity and humour - that the community can bring out the best in us (if we choose to let it - as opposed to choose to let it get one's goat... to which, of course, I too, sometimes succumb.)

Thanks and the best to you as well :toast:

this would be one boring planet.

Besides we would be stagnant, never learning, never changing. I could never be content in a world like that.

Besides, I have nothing but the highest respect for everyone here, especially those with the honesty and dignity to stand by their ideals.

it is always so great to see you here - I think our posting times tend to be off so that we don't often get the opportunity to interact directly.... but when we get the chance to do so - I always leave with a smile.

Funny - I seem to recall that our first direct interaction was over a misunderstanding (me - not clear - imagine that...) but through that interaction... a conversation and appreciation was born. May I send to you a perpetual :toast:

71. Thank you much, my friend blm
Very appreciated.

Don't know that my Green friends would consider me master of their politics - that pragmatic dem side of me sorta sometimes gets in the way... But then I sorta irk some of my fellow dem friends as well... maybe queen of the polite irksome? ;-)

Thanks again blm, and while we may not always agree on methods, please know that your passion, dedication and wisdom is greatly appreciated. So glad that in the end (and maybe before... still undecided here)... we are on the same side :D

69. Congrats Salin wonderful 20,000 posts!
Here's to you friend!

I got the band to play...
Skinner on lead, Elad on drums, and Earl G on base ...with NSMA singing: "You Rock My World!"

Zomby not wanting to be left out at the corner of the Lounge he grabbed his guitar singing,
"Salin you rock me baby!"

Then GOPisEvil got into the curve with his trumpet...rocking the room!

And the rest of us DUers' just shout! :yourock:

We Love ya Salin! :grouphug:

To Many More Posts Friend! :toast:
