It's 6 degrees in Boston and So Damn Cold I'm Making Stew |
|
Chicken thighs were on sale at Shaw's for $1.99/lb, so I think I'm making Coq Au Vin. The chicken is marinating in red wine with onion, garlic, celery, herbs de provence and olive oil. I will be cooking it for a few hours and serve it with some risotto.
:P
Anyone have any other good cold-weather recipes?

3. Shit-You STILL Don't Have Heat? |
|
Did you call your landlord? They should put you up in a hotel if they can't keep the temperature at 68 degrees.
You're welcome to come over! There's plenty of coq au vin to go around! :hi:

4. Do you cook it in a crock pot? Or a skillet? |
|
That sounds really good and relatively easy. I once made a coq au vin recipe that used up virtually every dish, pot and pan in the house.

7. Hm, where do you live? |
|
$1.99 for chicken thighs is really expensive by Pacific Northwest standards. 99 cents would be the routine sale price and sometimes even 59 cents for locally grown.

8. Boston has the most expensive supermarket prices in the country |
|
There was an expose on our local news a few months back about this. I think the title was "Think You're Paying A Lot At the Grocery Store? Guess What! You ARE!"
$1.99 is WICKED cheap for any chicken products here. I also bought a roaster on sale for $1.49/lb. Boneless is anywhere between $3.99-$6.99/lb.
I feel like I get robbed everytime I go food shopping.

With all the mad cow stuff I've felt a little skittish about meat lately and made this last week:
Soak 1 lb. black beans overnight, drain, rinse and add fresh water. Bring to a boil then lower temp to simmer.
Add 1 onion and 1 bell pepper, chopped, 1 tsp. cumin seed, red pepper flakes to taste (I like it hot).
Cook about an hour longer than forever until everything dissolves into smooth beany goodness. When nearly done add salt or chicken boullion cubes to taste.
Even better made the day before and reheated. I've made it before with bacon, but I think it's equally good without.
