Did you have a moment in your life that you knew was better than all that came before?
I woke up next to my (then) girlfriend - later we married - in a small cabin in a grove of redwoods in Big Sur. The sun came in through the skylight and we could see straight up to the trees.

She rolled over with those languid eyes; I brushed her thigh with my open hand and she kissed me and rolled back. I had never seen anyone so beautiful in all my time.

All the pain I'd ever known seemed worth living through just at that moment.

I don't know why, but this is what's been on my mind all day.

4. nice
That is so erotic yet completely innocent at the same time. The imagery is just gorgeous.I'd wonder more if you didn't often think about that :)

I feel transcendental bliss whenever I sit alone,at dawn,on the beach watching the sun rise over the ocean. It's just too perfect a moment for me - makes me feel connected to everyone and everything that ever was and ever will be.

9. You know what? It's surprising how often I forget that moment.
With my wife there have been so many beautiful moments, sometimes the individual moments get lost.

Of course, there are times these kind of memories get lost in the ordinary drudgery of daily life, but it is wonderful to think that even if I vanished tonight, I will have, in fact, lived.

13. It's more that I don't enjoy canned "romance."
Or romantic comedies. Those make me ill because they are unrealistic. I have a hard unfeeling spot for overly unrealistic things.

I get a little pissed off at Valentine's Day because I have never seen anything so commercial before. This year just seemed especially tacky.

I don't think that I'm naturally a touchy-feely, warm-and-fuzzy, even genuinely kind person. Not exactly proud of that.

:(

Your day sounds lovely, though--sounds REAL.

12. Watching snow fall in the desert near Tucson.
It was so quiet and peaceful. No sounds of cars or people, just the snow falling on saguaros. Beautiful.

14. That's a great story NNadir.
My moment was the first date with my ex-wife. We went to a drive-in movie (one of the few that still exist) with a bottle of Blue Nun. We saw "The Jungle Book". The night ended with a kiss on her parents porch. Simple, innocent, and beautiful. I knew this was it, and I was higher that night on my way home than I'd ever been before or since. I was 29 and she was 24.

We had many great years together and still talk daily. She's the best friend I ever had.

15. It's interesting that she's an "ex."
At least she's not an ex-friend.

I have seen so much love turn bitter, but that seems not to have happened to you. Whatever happened this much is wonderful.

My wife was my friend for a long time before we were lovers, but we were never such good friends as we have been since becoming lovers.

16. That's so beautiful
Mine was the morning of my 40th birthday. I'd taken off from the Bay Area on Tuesday afternoon, no destination in mind, 3 days off. On Thursday, my birthday, I reached the rim of the Grand Canyon at about 10 am. It had snowed lightly, the sky was deep blue and the snow was like a layer of icing on the gorgeous red rocks. I was practically alone - my birthday is in January so there were almost no tourists there.

Looking at that vast, incredible canyon made me feel so incredibly alive. It was the best birthday I ever had.

Pics from that day -

17. First kiss with someone I was in love with
You described it in much better language than I could.

It was a moment of pure ecstasy. I had been chasing after her for years, and when we finally kissed, it was like all of the pain and the hurt simply dissolved away and were replaced with pure bliss.

And then she got on an airplane. Ah well.

18. Finding out I have Asperger's syndrome
That may be hard for people to understand, but for me it just was when everything just fell into place. All the struggles that I had had, which for me had mainly to do with social interaction and people (aside from the sensitivity issues like sensivity to light and sound), just began to make sense and I felt I was finally 'normal' in a way, at least for an aspie I am normal. It has been the beginning of some sense of inner peace after 2 decades of struggle...for some reason I wasnt' really bothered terribly by my difference until I got to be the age of about 16 and then it became more and more of a liability. I still struggle with interpersonal relations sometimes and occasionally get blindsided by folks with dubious motives or agendas that might be more obvious to someone who is neurotypical, but knowing about the aspergers just makes it easier for me to forgive myself when I misjudge people and situations and just detach and move on.

19. The day my kids were born ...
It's hard to describe how that feels ... I was ecstatic they were here, healthy, beautiful -- and that labor was over!

My wedding day was incredible. It started out shaky (very rainy -- outside wedding) but then for the ceremony it cleared up and a TRIPLE rainbow emerged.

Also the day I was accepted to college, I felt so free and that I was headed to the place I belonged.

And when I was a kid, the day my parents told me I could get a horse ... Man, for a horse-crazed child, that was unforgettable. I was bouncing all over the house.

I had a day in my early 20s that seemed so golden. I'd gotten a job I'd wanted and I remember walking up the hill to my apartment in San Francisco, passing a friend, waving to them, and then getting ready for a night on the town (the kind you can only have when you're about 22)...

20. The Moment I Delivered My son...
(with the OB's help of course) I pulled him out of his mother, cut his cord, wiped him clean, wrapped him up, and set him on his mother's chest.

I hadn't slept a wink, but I was so NOT tired.

I'll never forget that moment in time, and I'll always be thankful to the kind OB/GYN who handed me the elbow gloves and said "go for it" total surprise, got pics and vids of it.

Amazing moment in time...

*sigh*

22. 33 Drive In, Athens, Ohio, 1975
Brand new driver's license and a year-old (unused) Trojan in my wallet, six-pack of Rolling Rock on the backseat, half-smoked joint in the ashtray, and trashy little Natalie beside me on the bench seat of my father's '64 Fairlane wagon, unhooking her bra with one hand and tossing her gum out the window with the other. Before that, everything was just kind of a dull, grey blur.

23. My moment lasted two years.

It was the two years I spent hitch-hiking around the country in the mid to late 1970's. Just me, my backpack and good walking shoes. Enough interesting and grand stories in that time period to fill two good-sized novels. Almost thirty years later, and still, rarely a day goes by without thinking about those adventures, and I smile a most contented smile.

I HAVE seen America.

25. There are too many, and they keep happening; Making me think,

"Wow, life just cannot get any better than this..."

...The day my daughter was born to her child mother...

...meeting MrG again...

....when he looked up at me in the courthouse on our wedding day as he was saying his vows...

...and later in the car, realizing he was my husband and we would get to spend the rest of our lives together...

...hearing my son's cry after not believing he would even Be...

...and ever smile my son gives me...every hug from a 17 year old daughter who, the magazines will tell me, shouldn't even "like" me much less love me...

...every wink from MrG, his arm across my waist as we fall asleep...I could go on but, from the looks of a response or two, I may cause an eye rollie or two if I did.

27. Yes, the very first time I held Haruka
After months of IMing and hundreds and hundreds of hours talking on the phone, when we finally met -- it was like a damned movie. We just looked at one another and ran and grabbed each other, and in that moment, all that had ever come before in my life seemed like ashes and shadowlands.

Great OP. I know what you mean. So many little events are really such meaningful moments.
