I'm running to the Piggly Wiggly....what do you need?
Edited on Wed Mar-14-07 05:00 PM by Maddy McCall
We're supposed to get some really bad weather down here in South Mississippi tonight. I'm going to go pick up some Reeses and popcorn, for the hunker-down period. (Merh, make yourself safe!)

Anyone need anything from the Pig?

1. You can't have a good hunker down night without
Single Malt scotch, Maytag blue cheese, and some ginger snaps to put the cheese on. Oh, and Cheese Wiz in a spray can. If things really go to hell, you can write "HELP" on yor roof in spray cheese so that in a year or so when FEMA gets around to looking for survivors, they'll find you.

ONe of the oddities of where I live is that grocery stores can't carry wine. You can only get wine and liquor at package stores.

Grocery stores sell beer. But no wine. I don't know why that is.

Also, no beer sold before noon on Sunday.

50. That's kind of like it is here in Minnesota; the grocery stores can sell
3.2 beer and wine COOLERS but that's all. The rest of the alcohol is in liquor stores or on/off sale places. And on Sunday all you can get is the 3.2 and the wine coolers, and not before noon. It's pretty silly.

However, we're really close to the Louisiana State Line, so alls ya have to do is drive about ten miles, and you can get whatever you want whenever you want it.

And a lottery ticket to boot.

than that stuff on a Sunday; they sell just about everything in the grocery stores, and I think they have Sunday sales...it's been a while since I spent a weekend in Iowa, hee hee!

They don't want to be seen buying their booze in a local package store, so they all go across the state line. I often wonder if the deacons bump into each other while choosing their Jack Black and Gallo. :D

84. *lol* My dad was a Lutheran minister for over 50 years, and he often went to
the old State-owned liquor store in town to buy Mogen David for Communion wine, and then he'd buy some vodka and some sherry and some rum and some wine and some vermouth and some whiskey and some gin and some bitters and some more vodka and sometimes some creme de menthe and some creme de cacao and some Galliano and some Tia Maria and he'd stock the bar at home like you wouldn't BELIEVE...
I still can't stand Mogen David *lol* Gives me a headache.

99. It was for Pop anyway!! Not sure about the rest of the clergy in my little town
although I know most of them enjoyed at least a cocktail now and again...and a couple of Daddy's best buddies, both Catholic priests and golf partners, could really knock back the liquid sustenance and tell TALES, man those two were a hoot. They used to come for dinner and then they'd all sit around and drink and smoke and play cards and tell clergy stories and it was a riot.

70. Just how close to the La. line?
Close enough that they'd have a Zat's mix (almost any kind would do) and some andouille?

And -- and this is key -- does the beer selection cover Abita? (I know of no MS-brewed beer, so it'd actually be the local product.)

That and a bag of Zapp's chips (not the really really hot kind) ought to about cover it. You can tell which side of the line I used to be on -- am still on, in a way -- huh?

Believe it or not, it's rather crappy out here, too, though the green blobs on radar seem to be moving over toward Maui. Time to hunker down!

I can be in Louisiana in ten minutes.

The local Pig, though, carries all of your requests:

The Pig has Zats mix (we had dirty rice for lunch).
And andouille (which I'll be buying when I make jambalaya this weekend).
Abita beer is on the shelves. And Dixie, too. :D
Did you say Crawtaters? Yep, they got Zapps, too. :9

Take care, KamaAina! Go hunker down and take care.

Want your whole chicken split in half for the grill? They do it...no problem!

77. There's a town called Wawa
in Northern Ontario that I've passed through many times. A huge Canada Goose statue greets you just before you get to town, on the Trans Canada Highway.

If I'm ever down there Maddy, I'll take you up on it. I wanna go shopping at the Piggly Wiggly! :bounce:

Could you buy me some bananas (organic if possible) and a Cadbury's Easter Creme egg? Much obliged! :-)

82. No problem.
The bananas might be a little green, though. Cadbury Eggs, I'm already stocked up on. I'll share. :D

A goose statue would last about two days in Mississippi. It'd be destroyed by the rednecks with shotguns. :D

97. Lol
I hope none are thick enough to try and cook it! :P

Green bananas are a-ok with me. Don't like them too ripe. And thanks for the eggs! I'm craving them far too much...

May I say, you have a fine menu lined up. :toast: Here's hoping the weather isn't too bad, after all. :pals:

69. Well if you ever go to a meet up in DC or at some other place.
outside of MS, you need to be sure to have a pig shirt.

Your dad sounds alot like my dad, Biloxi was ixolib and Gulfport was tropflug. When we would vacation, the long car trips, he'd ask the gas station folks "How far is it to tropflug?" they'd look at his as if he were peculiar and he'd say "that city right next to ixolib."

We used to hide when he carried on that way, I'd give anything to here that routine again.

Safe travels to the Pig and stay safe during the weather - send out energies that no super cells accompany this one.

74. Were our fathers brothers in a past life?
That is so wild...sounds just like my dad's foolishness. When I was a kid, it embarassed me. As an adult, I cherish it.

Yes, let's keep our fingers crossed that we don't get terrible weather.

104. Well, if I find myself in Maddy's neck of the woods one day
I'll get you one of the t-shirts.

I'm hanging in there, getting ready to go get some sleep before the weather gets nasty. I'm hoping the worst of it skirts us.

Winston is at my feet, full belly and sleeping soundly. He is so much better, a few days hooked up to an IV pumping fluids and antibiotics into him, plus a bland diet and more antibiotics when he came home have him back to the spoiled healthy furry brat I know and love.

All of my pups are a little upset with me, they are now on better diets and treats are not as quickly dispensed as they would like, but I try to tell them it's for their own good.

Thanks for asking. :hi:

I hope life is good for you and yours.

just bring back a surprise.

I'll hunker down, if the weather comes this way. You be sure to do the same. My luck will be it hits at 3:00 a.m. and that makes for a horrid sleep.

the NOAA website for your zipcode at www.nws.noaa.gov.

I bet y'all are under the same flash flood/severe weather watch that we are.

Ok...I'll bring you a surprise, and I'll bring Winston a big bone from the meat market.
