I made it to my destination alive, but minus a computer, my wallet, and my cell phone.
HI to DU!

8. I had one hell of a layover in Chicago |
|
First, I had my wallet and cell taken, then in an effort to raise some fuunds (and I was going to buy a new comp anyway) decided to sell my comp on craigslist. The people that came to buy it stole it.
Luckily, I have good friends and they came to Chicago to get me.
I did not know until last weekend that you CAN NOT travel on any form of transit without an ID. Which meant, no plane, no train and no bus. My friends had to drive to Chicago to get me.

18. i'm pretty sure greyhound will let you buy a ticket without i.d. |
|
maybe not at the major bus terminals, but probably at one of the smaller town bus terminals (say if you were in chicago, maybe joliet or something, which would be accessible by commuter rail).
most of the smaller terminals close at 8 p.m.
this is what i would have done:
1. determined where a small town was on the last legs of a commuter line leaving downtown chicago.
2. while waiting for said train, call greyhound for a schedule leaving around 11 pm ish.
3. get to smaller town terminal on commuter train.
4. wait for bus, board bus and give driver cash for ticket or wait til next 24 hour bus terminal stop to purchase.
mind you, i recently purchased a one way ticket from houston, texas to beaumont, texas on greyhound and did not have to show any i.d.

the people at the terminal in Chicago told me I needed an ID. I am not a frequent rider so I was not aware that I did not have to.
Thanks for the tip, but I hope I never have to go through that again.

I am so glad that you are okay and sorry that you had such a run of bad karma in Chicago. Not for anything, I have visited Chicago at least 20 times in my life, and I have never had anything bad happy to me....not sure if I was just lucky or what.
Nevertheless, I am thrilled to hear that you are fine.
 Peace my friend

I was worried about you.
My daughter was in Chicago this weekend visiting a friend and I wasn't online when you posted where you were.
I'm glad you're okay.
