2. be sure you have a good firewall |
|
assuming you are upgrading from dial up. DSL is always on, and succeptable to hacking/fishing expeditions, where someone may try to deposit nasty software on your computer. A friend asked me why their computer was running so slowly, turned out it had been taken over and was sending spam like crazy.

4. I've had cable for the past several months, but I'm getting ready |
|
to disconnect the cable service, so I'm going to DSL. Until a week or so ago, I had Norton stuff but that was making my computer CRAWL, so I took it off. Now things are a LOT faster -- but I've gotta get something else.
Any suggestions?

5. If you had cable, you know what to expect. |
|
but you absolutely MUST have a decent firewall. I like Norton myself, but McAffee makes a decent one too. Im sure the computer geeks on here can direct you to other good products.

I can't see wasting electricity when I'm sleeping, at work and out and about on my bike. It only takes a few minutes to reconnect.

7. I've done that with my cable modem sometimes. |
|
At the very least, I'd turn it off.
And I never got the DSL installed...and now I'm internetsless at home. That oughta motivate me, at least.
