Dixie Chicks
I know I am very late to the party on this one BUT WOW!
I just bought the documentary "Shut Up and Sing!" and it was TERRIFIC!

.....I followed all the bullshit they went through thanks to the far right lunatics, but to see it all unfold in front of you is terrifying! Those three woman are inspirational!

So after I watched the dvd, the next day I decided I would check out their new album. I had no idea what it sounded like and I didn't remember the name of it by the time I got to the store. I asked one of the roaming employees if he could show me where "that new Dixie Chicks album is. The one with that song that pissed off republicans?" (He smiled.)

I loved the album and I highly recommend it. And I was never a big country music fan. I could not even name a DC song before I saw the documentary. (I'm an old time rock guy.) I know the Chicks are old news around here and this thread will sink fast. I just wanted to share with DU because you guys/girls are all so awesome! (Once again this website has enriched my life.)
Shit..... I may even go to their Jones beach concert this summer! I'll probably stick out like a sore thumb!

1. I'm going to a screening of it tonight, with a Q&A with the filmmakers...
...Barbara Kopple and Cecilia Peck (among others). Free, thank ye gods.

Can't WAIT to see it.

5. TAKE ME -- I love them
They do a great concert, and are very, very nice IRL to their fans.I got to chat with them a time or two, once at the Wildhorse at Disney RIGHT before they became big.

6. Well, the Chicks won't be there tonight, just the filmmakers.
But I DID get to go to the taping of their VH1 Storytellers show this fall, and they were AWESOME.

2. I agree with you. I was never a country music fan. But I've liked the
Dixie Chicks since "Wide Open Spaces", because of the harmonies, their instrumental skill, and because they're so damn HOT! They never really sang the whiny, adenoidal crap that wastes of oxygen like Garth Brooks and Lone Star sing.

Still, I hadn't bought any of their albums until the whole right-wing attack machine went gunning for them. I've bought both albums released since then, and enjoy them very much, especially the new one. It is far less country and more MOR adult rock than before. I'll support them with my dollars until the right-wing either gives up or shuts up. Or just disappears... (I wish!)

11. I admire their convictions
but to me, they still sound kind of like cats stuck in the basement. Maybe it's the fiddle. I just can't get into them.

12. Chicks Rule!

Near the end of the film, in 2006, where Martie begins to break down on camera, saying, she would give it ALL up,now, just so that Natalie could be at Peace,again....jesus, what a moment:cry:

Barbara Kopple is a genius, BTW:think:

13. I just saw it too you should vote for them for the CMT
I just saw it today. I'm not a fan of theirs. I don't like country or their new sound but my boyfriend watched the documentary and wanted me to watch it so I did, WOW. I went to their website to find out more about them and I saw that they're nominated for a CMT award we should all vote for them. It will really piss off redneck America if they win so lets help. Here is a link you have to join to vote, but it only takes a second. http://www.cmt.com/shows/events/cmt_music_awards/2007/vote/
