This is my second post whining about this |
|
but why, oh why can't people who want to post Youtube threads put them over in the video forum?
For those of us stuck on dial-up or with too little memory to run the Youtube videos it really sucks to click on threads that are all about a Youtube video and not be able to watch them or know what the hell the video is about.
Isn't that why the video forum was created?

1. I should look, but the video forum is full of political videos. |

I like to post fun, when not utterly goofy, videos.

And the YouTube threads in the Lounge only contain links, they aren't embedded. They require ridiculously little bandwidth.
Also: You don't have to click on YouTube threads, you know.

8. guess you've never attempted to watch them on dial-up |
|
and then, not being able to watch them, have no idea what the hell the thread is about.
And many people post threads with Youtube links that give no indication what the link is about only writing "check this out" or "how cool would this be".

|
How would a YouTube specific forum help you be able to watch them? If oyu can't watch them here, you won't be able to watch them there, and won't be able to participate in the thread anyway.
And if you can't watch YouTube videos, does it make a difference as to whether someone posts an unlabled link to a video?

If you click on a thread and see a YouTube link, click the "back" button on your browser. Simple as that.

19. Yes, I agree, it is simple as that |
|
It would also be just as simple for the person who posts the link to note that in their subject line (like the kind people who post pictures in their threads do). Or at the very least for the people who post the links to post what the link is about. Being considerate of others is simple isn't it?

But really, you know what this thread makes me think of? People who complain about what's on television when they could just as easily change the channel. Someone doesn't say "This is a YouTube video" in their subject line? Oh no, they've made you waste a whole few seconds of your life. It's not something worth complaining about.
There are plenty of non-YouTube threads that are just as much a waste of time as a YouTube thread that you might not be able to participate in. Have you ever clicked on a thread thinking you might be interested, but it turns out to be something completely stuipid? That happens a lot to me. it's inevitable with such an active forum. Do I whine and demand they mark their threads as "Useless shit you might not care about"? No, because I expect to come across that stuff from time to time, just as I expect to come across a YouTube thread from time to time. When I don't care, I just hit back. It's a few seconds out of my life that I'd have wasted anyway, and since you're on the same message board as me right now, you'd have probably wasted them too.

9. I understand what you mean |
|
But I enjoy those threads most of all...more than anything I like coming here and talking to people about music. If there is a separate forum for it it will just become a ghetto and have little traffic. There are many many threads here that I don't know 'what the hell they are about' as you say, because there are so many lounge 'in-jokes' from back before my my time. If a thread is offensive or annoying or just inscrutable to me I hide it. I hide many threads here every day. Different strokes for different folks, you know? I don't come in here assuming I have a right not to be annoyed. I'm not trying to be harsh, just saying I understand exactly what you are saying but for completely different reasons. There are several posters here that I hide just about every thread they post, just because most of the time I don't know what they are talking about (which may be the point, some kind of overdone quirkiness that identifies their lounge 'persona')...but I don't petition the mods asking that these folks be given their own forum because they annoy me.

14. So, even though you like the Youtube threads most of all |
|
You wouldn't go to a VideoLounge Forum to watch them?
If I knew the treads contained a video link I wouldn't click on them, but very few people post the link with that warning. Usually they post ambiguous terms like 'I can't believe this' or 'Go get em buddy'. Maybe if I work on my psychic powers I will know which threads contain Youtube links and then I will hide them.
Thanks for your understanding. :hi:

that most people who post them wouldn't go in there...it would probably kill the posting of videos.
I see threads posted here all the time with titles like "tomato", "azul", "chicken" and you click on the cotton-pickin thing and all it says in the body of the message is "discuss". That drives me nuts. Or the 'who is the quirkiest of them all threads', etc. It's kind of a crap-shoot sometimes clicking on this stuff. You know what, though, some forums I have seen if you hold the cursor arrow over the message a little box will come up and you can read the whole message in the header, if the whole thing doesn't show...maybe people just need to be a little bit more courteous about giving more info in the header, like if it's one of those stupid "discuss" threads, they need to post "discuss thread" in the header, so I don't waste that 5 seconds of my day, lol. I think the lounge kinds of prides itself on those teaser threads though.

But it always seemed to me that when you listen to the music with the lyrics of a great song, you understand all that's between the lines, including those things that cannot be expressed with words.
Listening to someone BS about music is like listening to someone in an art gallery talk about brush strokes evoking ethereal images. I just want to tell them to shut up and look!
