a new Ford Explorer and then a new Durango............
V-6 in the Explorer. V-8, Hemi, in the Durango.
Cheeeesch......what a difference.
Cruising at 63 mph in the Explorer had me at 2250 RPM Cruising at 63 mph in the Durango had me at 1650 rpm.
Fuel economies were almost the same...........
That's one powerful son-of-a-gun. I know why they are pushing it on TV!

5. It's a hemispherical combustion chamber. |
|
It is a better shape for gas combustion. It optomises the power of the explosion in each cylinder. Chrysler owns the patent on it, and many of their muscle engines from the 60s and 70s were popular for their 'hemi' design.
It's more powerful, and more fuel-efficient.
But it's also a gimmick, when marketed to suburban imbiciles.

refers to a style of engine that Mopar (Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth) popularized in the '60s. Hemi means hemispherical combustion chamber which allows the engine to breathe better and hence produces more performance.
Yes, those ads that make men out to be chumps are pretty annoying. It's not PC to do that to women but I guess men are fair game :)

13. That's always been the way... "Ancient Chinese Secret, eh?" |
|
Men are always the patsy in commercials. It's part of the ad strategy to pander to women. "Everybody knows hubby's uselses in the kitchen, right gals? We hear your pain. It's okay, though...we can all have a good laugh at his expense, and diminish his perceived power over our lives. Oh, by the way, buy our laundry soap--it's great!"

7. I liked the first one. That kid that says HEMI is adorable. |
|
But that's the only part I like. Those Durangos have all been recalled, by the way, from what I understand. MANY PROBLEMS. Duckie

14. I just returned a Durango after a month |
|
of using it as a loaner while my car was in the shop. I was NOT impressed!! My '93 Explorer with 250,000 miles climbed hills without a grunt, but on these same hills I had to go into passing gear in the Durango. The Explorer held the road better, was quieter and felt more solidly constructed. And yes the commercials SUCK OUT LOUD!!
