111. My grandmother and my aunt are named Dorothy
Well, we call my aunt 'Dotti'.

That's why I thought of it. I also remember looking it up year by year on census.gov last year, and I saw it plummet from 2nd-most-popular in the 20's to off the top 100 in the 70's.

My kid's is Samuel, hardly cutting edge itself. But it goes well with his middle name, Ellis, and our last name. :-)

28. You can see the switch in the ending scene, where Pubert launches into space
During the whole "skateboard-cauldron-launch" sequence, you can see the different Puberts - one has a much chubbier face than the other.

Fave quote from the movie, "I hope that one day you, too, can experience the joy of having your own children...and of paying someone else to raise them."

Warning to modern parents: In their day, those names were TRENDY.

Names of relatives of my grandmother's generation.

It is amusing to imagine old ladies named Britney and Tiffany and Jessica and Madyson. When the girls with those names are old, the trendy names will be Mildred, Edna, Cora and Hilda.

My oldest will be 20 in June. Her name is Kayla. If I had known I was on the beginning end of a trend, I might have chosen a different name. I had no idea how many Kaylas would be born in the years to come!

She went to school with another Kayla and a Caila.

No, you probably didn't do that because ST:DS9 didn't air until 1993 and your kid must have been born in 1991.

Hmmm... unless, of course, you were so inspired by the previews of the series! :-)

68. My grandfather's name was
John Archibald. And I think of all the Scottish names (yes, from good old Scottish stock!) in the family: Duncan, Angus, Hugh, Colin, Frederick, Ronald, Ranald--most of them would sound strange on a child nowadays. But most of them would work for a middle name.

The women's names are a lot tamer: Katherine (Catherine), Mary, Jessica, Kathleen, Ellen--most of them are pretty classical names. The only "odd" one I can think of is Mamie, but even that might work. On the other side of the family, Irish and English, it's Hilda, Margaret, Bridget, Barbara, Mary (again), Gertrude, Sarah--most of them still widely used (except for maybe Gertrude and Hilda).

What's important to remember is that kids then were more serious than kids nowadays, and the more somber names fit them better. Our kids now have the chance to be kids longer and names with more gravitas just don't fit for the most part.

if it had been a boy. (I've got a Callie asleep in the other room). I've heard of a few in the past few years-it's making a comeback.

And Colin's big. My best friend said that there are three boys in her ten year old's classroom and two in her six year old's classroom.

(Just wanted to add-a friend named his son Angus as the first name because of-you can probably guess it-Angus Young. His middle name is Donal so the kid's called Don by everyone.)

88. I went to high school w/ three Aubreys.
Two girls, one boy.

Early 90's. Not a huge name but it's out there-we're in our early 30's and I've heard on baby forums where the name has been brought up.

89. I don't know.
Hazel isn't the worst name in the world.

And in some classrooms Phinneas won't be the worst name either. Come on, my kid goes to school w/ boys named after sports teams.

(Sadly, that's not a joke.)

91. Or Steeler
or Chief or Bear or Blu. (All real first names. Told you they were idiots.)

And Paprika for a girl. Another little girl goes by the name Clair-her smart grammy shortened it for her before she started school since her idiot parents named her Clairol.

Some of the names from the 50s sound dated now, too, such as Doris and Lucille and even Judy.

94. I think more about names that won't fit people when they get old...I have
a hard time picturing an elderly "Tyler" or "Tiffany" or any of the names that seem to be more suited to anyone under the age of 10 than to anyone over the age of 20 (and I hope I am not being offensive to anyone who has/has kids or friends or family members with/loves those names!)
