I'm too wired to sleep. I should be exhausted, but I'm not. |
|
Drove down to Long Island (NY) this morning to have a meeting with a guy who flew in from Chicago to look over the company I'm brokering the sale of.
Driving from here to LI is enough of a tension convention without even considering the stakes of the meeting, which are that if I bring the buyer and seller together, my commission would be an amount that I won't even mention here, except to say that it has lots of zeroes and is about 75% of what I make in an average entire year.
Then the traffic and the ferry and even more traffic on the way home, and thinking over the chances that the sale will go through (I'd say about 75% positive right now) and that complicating factor that if the company does NOT get sold, the owner wants me to take it over and run it for him, which would be damn easy for me to do (and get good solid bucks for doing so), but then I'd have to close my own business that I've had for 15 years, which I started with $700 in the bank and a Sears credit card...life's getting damn interesting right about now.
So I can't sleep. Can you blame me?

1. Wow, that is a lot to chew on! |
|
I think it would be really hard for me to quiet my mind as well.

I'm damn prone to be.

2. That's a lot to think about and absorb all at once... |
|
I think I'd be bouncing around and jittery and climbing the walls right about now.
You'll sleep though. You will. Eventually.
I promise.

5. Thank you, m'dear. It's been WAY too long since I've heard from you. And I saw someone who looked |
|
EXACTLY like you the other day I was at the grocery store with Mrs R. I pointed that woman out to Mrs R and said DAMN, that woman looks just like my DU pal in Colorado, and Mrs R said that if she (Mrs R)ever got run over by a bus, that she (Mrs R) would hope that I'd end up with someone down-home and comfortable looking (Mrs R's words) like her (the woman who looked like you).
That there would be a compliment, if you could only figure it out. Did I mention that I'm exhausted?

You'll sleep and then, in the morning, things will seem calmer. You'll see.
And...thank you.

just the part in the last paragraph about closing the business you started with $700 would be enough to keep me up for days...quite a bit of nostalgia, wow. Here's hoping that it works out in the way you are most comfortable with.

8. That's a big consideration. And the most complicating part of it is that I made the decision |
|
to keep the business small enough so I could have my office in my house about four years into it. I could have grown the business and made lots more money by renting an office and hiring people, but I wanted to be home when my older son (who was then young) came home from school.
Now, it's nice to be here (with Mrs R) when the little guy comes home from school.
Decisions, decisions.

12. Yes, it was damn nice out. Made me wish I had driven the convertible. But Mrs R's car has |
|
an automatic transmission, which is something to be desired when driving in New York traffic.
Hey, don't you Long Islanders have any civic pride? EVERY utility pole I saw down there (except in Port Jeff) was covered with illegal "spam signs." WE BUY HOUSES. LOSE WEIGHT FAST. All that crap. Go out and rip them down, won't you? It's good exercise, fun, and an excellent community service.

14. Tis true about those signs, as I recall. |
|
But actually I live in Coney Island (Brooklyn,) only *close* to LI. Nevertheless I'll see what I can do about the signage once I procure my new bike....
Best of luck in your ventures!

I doubt many of us could sleep with the prospects you have on the horizon. All will turn out the way it's supposed to. You seem the type of person that will be happy and contented with whatever outcome the gods send you.

20. "All will turn out the way it's supposed to." My philosphy EXACTLY! Not that things will turn out |
|
for the best, but that they'll turn out as they're supposed to.
Glad to see that someone else knows the difference; thank you for your reply.
