I'm NOT changing my name to rbli. But I AM buying a house... |
|
...on Long Island.
I grew up in apartment buildings. I've almost always lived in an apartment. (Sometimes in a tent or a car...)
I remember when I was little, I used to go up on the roof of our apartment building and look at all the houses in the surrounding neighborhood. I used to wish I lived in one. I used to dream about what it must be like to have a yard and a family room and a driveway. The thing I wanted most in the whole world was to grow up in a house.
My son is 2 and 1/2. I can't believe we were able to do it. But we're moving to our first house, our first HOME, in 2 months. My son will have a room big enough for all his toys, and a yard with a swing and a sandbox. Every parent wants to be able to give their child more than they had when they were growing up. I'm so thankful that my son is going to grow up in a house. I'm so LUCKY!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! I hope I can get close to becoming worthy of this fantastic fortune. I never in my whole life thought that this could happen to me.

It means a being and hour away from work, but it's halfway beyween my work and my husband's work, so it's fair. I like the train anyway.
Money will be a bit tight. But I just got a little raise, and I have good job security and a lot of potential to be promoted. But we are ON budget. It is totally doable.

31. But now you have a small yard. |
|
You can plant a few small things and do planters in other spots. Tomatoes, pole beans, etc. You can even grow potatoes in a trash can.
Doesn't sound like much but you can save more than you think-every bit helps. And you know it's really healthy.

Thanks!

38. What a great way to bond! |
|
Fresh herbs in your windowsills, a few potted plants here and there. Maybe a couple of apple trees if there is room.
Heck, I bet she'd bring you cuttings and plants for a housewarming if you mentioned gardening.
Someday I hope to buy my own home. My dream is one huge garden.

9. I'm very happy for you. I've always lived in houses and have never |
|
thought about the flip side. We never think to appreciate what we do have, huh? Although I envy the experiences you've had growing up in a city. I'm from a small town in Kansas and moved to the SF Bay Area as soon as I could. Love the city lights - smells and languages. Your little guy will know he is especially loved! Good Luck / Cheers!!!

rb for, y'know, R.B., ny for NY State, and c for cats. There. Problem solved.
Actually the woman I know back in the Tri-State who drenches herself in the most perfume hails from the Upper East Side, though she has been known to associate with Lawn Guylanders. :-)
