I won't go full atkins, but |
|
Im willing to try some of the suggestions like the low carb bread--hope it tastes ok--the low carb bar is on sale at my Kroger stroe, and I walk all day anyway, so I'm not a desk jockey  I tend to go for more chicken, salads, greens and fish anyway. And I love my steamed rice :D
I'm alot helatier than I have been before these past 2 years, so I must be doing something right. No daily trips to Burger King, more peanuts, lighter snalcs, almost no donuts (maybe 1 or 2 a week at most, nt the usual 2 a day). Oh, and lots and lots of water--that keeps the plumbing going  I don't drink nor smoke either..maybe I should call it the Zech Marquis Diet LMAO

1. Do you walk as part of your job? |
|
I would love to have a job like that. You are smart not to go "on a diet" but just stay away from unhealthy stuff and get lots of exercise.

I walk as much as possible. I stil like my sodas, but I always try to balance out how much soda I have with drinking lots of water too. Next time I go to utback, I'm going for that giant chicken casesar's salad :bounce: with the bread and fish (if they have any) If not, Ruby Tuesday has some low carb stuff. I don't go hog wild anymore.

6. Eliminate Sugar and cut your carbs |
|
and I'm not talking about cake, cookies and that type of sugar... I'm talking all sugar...Sugar permitates all types of foods from Barbaque Sauce to Bread. Look at the labels before you eat something and you'll be stunned at how much Sugar is in the items you eat.
Also...Beer can put it on you.... If you must drink try Scotch....
Also...Carbs...Thats the toughest... Pasta, rice, and Bread are the killers....
It may sound tough to eliminate the items above but once you do it, you'll start feeling 100 percent better and you will lose weight... Trust me...I lost 50 pounds and have kept it off for the last couple of years.

but beats having to deal with the daily Atkins requiremnts, and not really knowing how it will effect your health in the long run. No offense, but the jury is still out on that one.
Plus, once you lose the weight you want, you can have a can of soda or a bowl of pasta here and there.

5. Low carb breads vary a lot in quality |
|
Some of them are way too spongy, but there are some brands around that are nearly indistinguishable from well-made bread, especially when toasted.
I find myself using low carb tortillas a lot for quick pizzas and roll up sandwiches. A little "gritty", with a taste partway between wheat and corn tortillas, but they've become a staple in my diet.

7. My husband did Atkins for two months |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-12-04 09:35 AM by populistmom
He lost 30 pounds and now he just eats a little less, maybe 150 grams of carbs per day and maintains it fine (for 10 months now). Sometimes (but not always) it's easier for men.
