Dating Republicans
Sometimes people here ask how they should work it if they want to date a Republican or be involved with one. I always say it would be impossible for me. We have...HAVE...to share our values.

Anyway, before Laura Bush met George, she was a Eugene McCarthy Democrat...just a fact, google it. A Eugene McCarthy Democrat. That was a cool thing to be. Now look at her. You can't date people who have no values or stinky Republican values without one of you having to give in.

I also heard that every time she would disagree with him when they first married, he would throw red-faced tantrums.

Eugene McCarthy Democrat.

'nuff said.

1. Call me narrow minded, but I couldn't do it.
Not now, not with how much information is out there. I could not trust anyone willing to trust the GOP.

3. It's a mistake!
I really believe that the only way someone could be a republican is if they have no regard for others and that lack of empathy is a huge red flag for me. There's just a fundamental difference in the way they think and the way we think. I would go so far as to say that I think an even bigger compatibility issue than religion.

4. The only way I could do it is if they were RINO, that is
they were grossly uninformed and ripe for conversion. I've met so many "republicans" who agree with me on everything that I don't know why they call themselves conservative.

13. I don't know. I've met a few so-called republicans
who aren't politically aware enough to know what their team is up to. When informed, they're surprised.

No matter: when I start looking I'm going to keep clear of repukes.

5. Well, if you're good enough you might turn 'em into Democrats
I've done that. To be honest, I could tell her heart wasn't really into being a Republican, it was just how she was raised.

And no, I didn't just do it for the challenge! ;)

But if it was a total Bushbot a la Monica Goodling--no way.

7. True Story
I did have a boyfriend who was a Republican, though he wasn't political at the time. I dumped him because I wasn't really ready for a relationship at the time, and felt like he was smothering me.

Some years later he sent me an email and linked to his website. It was an anti-Bill Clinton, screed site. When I saw it all I could think was, "thank GOD I didn't fuck him!"

That said, I have nothing against the idea of dating a Republican, as long as he doesn't self-identify as one.

9. I wish someone
I wish someone could explain to me how you can fall for someone who doesn't share your values. It's the main thing about a person, to me. It's what you are.

12. That's it__I couldn't love someone who
doesn't share my values.

Republicans are too selfish -- I could never.

11. I don't think I would, but one thing I would do...
...I'd hit Ann Coulter. I'm not buying her conservative exterior. Deep down inside, she's a freak. I'm certain of it.

15. Not in a serious way, but I occasionally casually date one.
He's a repub who I've had mutual friends with. He's a nice guy, enjoyable to hang out with, and he's not a neocon. I've gone on dates with him here and there but I KNOW he's not someone I'd ever get involved with--our values are too different.

16. She is to George as Kate is to Tom. Terrified to think on her own.
It's a not so subtle form of mind control. I watched a few of my friends marry republicans and become one just because they didn't want to rock the boat.

I remember my mother telling me she wouldn't dare tell my dad she didn't vote his way of she'd never hear the end of it...EVER. And they were both dems. She wanted to vote for someone else in a local election, but he insisted she vote his way. She didn't, but lied about it to him.

17. My mom too
I'm 53 so my mom was WWII bride and my dad was ultra conservative. Any time she voted different than him, she did not tell him...to keep the peace. I feel for women of that era but it sure pisses me off.
I mean really...supporting Eugene McCarthy and then marrying Bush. Ewww Young Southern girl from that era with the attentions of the Bush clan... Her life would have looked really different if she had not married that man.

18. "You can't date people who have no values" .. exactly
*I won't even give them any respect much less MY time. Laura lost herself, gone to the dark side- look at all it got her though, she's rich and powerful.
(and what else would anyone need in THESE Glory Days Of American Empire? :eyes: )

19. Not that I want to defend the Bush clan, but I know someone who hangs out with a few of them
and they are not all republicans.

Although my friend who hangs with them is a millionaire (you'd never know it), it amazes me that she can spend 85% of her life fucking around with me and my radical crowd, and then casually slip into the role of Miss High Society in a flash and have dinner with people so unlike me. And no, she is NOT a spy.

20. Imagine waking up to a romantic breakfast in bed & FOX News
With your partner cackling along with the the TV.

Reminds me of the Curb Your Enthusiam episode in which Larry David is about to consumate his relationship with a women, but beccomes nauseous and has to leave when he sees a picture of George W. Bush on a table and realizes she is a Republican.
