If someone can put down a whole fifth of scotch in one night and still
somewhat function, shouldn't you be concerned? My uncle, who I know has an alcohol prob, drank over a 5th tonight. And he does it every time he drinks! Isn't that scary? I really am thinking about an intervention. My grandfather (his dad) was an alcoholic. So it is definitely in the genes. Wow! It still blows my mind at what and how much he drinks. He used to drink beer occasionally, but now beer doesn't get him to that high anymore, so he only sticks to liquor. It is really sad.

1. Ugh. My brother can put away a third of Powers Irish Whiskey a night.
He is undoubtedly an alcoholic, and one who will probably never admit he has a problem, sadly.

3. It certainly sounds like he has built up a resistance to alcohol....
...does he function normally, or does he reach a stupor stage?

6. Then definetly keep him off the road. A cab price is a small price to pay....
...for saving lives.

8. No joke! I will lay down behind his truck before I let him get behind the wheel.
My brother died from drinking and driving! Not again. Won't happen! If I can help it!

7. Almost 50 and yep he's been drinking as long as I can remember.
But it has gotten worse. He blacks out bad. He won't remember half of tonight tomorrow! This happens lots. He drinks (lots) alone. It is bad.

9. Well it means he has a heck of a tolerance...
if he has a problem he will have trouble putting it down under circumstances that would lead to that.

if not, if things get bad, he will quit.

but that's a lot of liquor and it's putting a tax on the liver

10. He probably drinks at least 3 fifths a week! His liver is probably jelly!
The sad thing is is that he knows deep down he has a problem but won't or can't do anything about it.

11. I know a woman who hosted a number of people
from the former Russian Republics. They were in the states, visiting schools, factories, and hospitals. She was astounded at the vast amounts of booze they could each slam down every night they were there. Even if their tolerance is built up, eventually all that ETOH is going slowly kill them.

17. I drank a full fifth of 90-proof bourbon twice--
once in my twenties, and I couldn't believe how sick I was the next day.

Second time was almost 6 years ago, and I took a handful of sleeping pills with it.

Needless to say, I'm still here. I still drink the occasional wine or beer, but I've found I no longer have a stomach for hard liquor.

I guess that's a good thing.
