I live in Houston and love the 'stros, but several years ago I was working on a ship that was being converted over at Bender shipyard in Mobile. It was baseball season, and Mobile has a wonderful AA team (Bay Bears) and a first class stadium. Best seats in the house were $6, and they didn't rip you off on concessions, either. We'd go every chance we could.

Anyway, I'll suck it up and pay the price again this season to see the games here.

I go up to Lancaster CA or to Rancho Cucamonga or to Lake Elsinore to catch California League games....or, if I'm back in NYC, I'll take the subway to Brooklyn to see the Cyclones in the NY-Penn League.

I'm in an odd position...I'm a Mets fan first and foremost...but I have adopted the Halos as my team out here (I hate the Dodgers). I travel from the SF Valley to go down to Anaheim. I have Angels season tickets.

It would be really tough for me to root against the Angels in a Mets-Angels World Series.

Just because ESPN gave Major League Baseball enough money to convince them to have two clubs start a day early doesn't make it Opening Day to me.

Now, if the home club for the first Sunday game were always Cincinnati, that would at least follow the former baseball tradition — just a day early and at night.
