I quit smoking 12 years ago today
Edited on Sun Apr-01-07 06:08 PM by LostinVA
I smoked 2+ packs a day for about 11 years. I quit cold turkey. Spitting up black-laced phlegm every morning and having the dentist tell me that "the white pots on your gum MAY be pre-cancerous" kinda had an effect on me.

You can do it, but you have to want to.

And, of course, now I'm engaged to a smoker. OMG!!!

4. Congrats to you
That's quite an accomplishment. I was a chain smoker as well, and money and vanity keep me off of them more than anything these days. I pretty much quit in '94; I've started back a few times in the interim but always knowing it would be temporary, and it was. I'd love to have 12 years completely clean though, after I got pneumonia for the third time in '88 my doctor in the hospital told me to quit right then but it took 6 more years.

Good going!

I'm still hooked. :grr: Got me a box of patches though, and Tuesday morning (yes, it's that precise, but don't ask), I'm starting on them (again). This time will be the good one.

I remember going through the same life altering experience. Also went from two packs to cold turkey.

You really have to want to.

Congratulations!

23. Ick -- I can say it isn't like licking an ashtray
Not that I ever did that, even when having my worst nicotine fit. It's more like kissing an NJ toxic waste dump -- I'M KIDDING, SWEETIE! LYNNE MADE ME SAY THAT!!!!

20. Way to go!
I grew up with a smoking mom (she's now reformed, but resents my dad and I for goading her into quitting). And I'm married to a former smoker, he's going on 25+ years without ciggies. I think I'm more tolerant about smoking than he is.

Tell Haruka she's way too beautiful to do that to herself. It can do really gross things to your skin, lips and teeth. I can just about always pick out a 50+ y.o. woman who smokes...she looks and sounds horrible. Health consequences aside, smoking really affects a woman's looks, whereas, not so much for a man.

I usually can, too.

It really does do bad stuff to your skin.
