Ethical issue: I'm part Native American and I like the Braves
Should I ditch the Braves because of the whole "Native Mascot" thing or shut up and do the tomahawk chop?

Whatever you do, dont tell AIM on me.

1. My dear NightWatcher.......
I have no claim to Native American blood......

So perhaps I should stay out of your thread...

But...

I would not permit any such discussion to make me drop my support of a team I love...

3. I dont really love them
They are just the closet team to my house and they are on tv every day between now and October.

I really prefer the local Single A Sand Gnats. It's only a ten minute drive and general admission is $6.

2. Do you like the Braves, or their logo?
There's no reason you can't support the team and want them to change their logo.

10. I remember watching the Braves on TV
and seeing Jimmy Carter doing the tomahawk chop. I couldn't quite wrap my brain around that one.

6. I don't think that a team called the braves dishonors Native Americans.
I also don't think that the Chiefs do either.
If you like a team only for their name, then there are other issues brewing that you need to work on.

7. I agree with bornaginhooligan. I have a double dilemma in this area
I have been following the Braves since I started going to school at Florida State. The place where the tomahawk chop originated. I've never been fond of the chop nor do I especially approve of the team using PEOPLE as mascots. However, I will continue to support both teams because I like the way the Braves do business and because I like the way Bobby Bowden emphasizes characer development among his students. I will admit however, I did enjoy the days when Chief "Nok-A-Homa" came out of his tee-pee to do his dance whenever one of the Braves knocked one into the seats. I say you should support your team and try to change the mascot from the inside.
