Couple fights for right to name their baby 'Metallica'
<http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070403/ap_on_fe_st/baby_metallica_6>

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) _ Metallica may work as a name for a heavy metal band, but a Swedish couple is struggling to convince authorities it's also suitable for a baby girl.
Sweden's tax agency rejected Michael and Karolina Tomaro's application to name their 6-month-old daughter after the legendary rock band.
"It suits her," Karolina Tomaro, 27, said Tuesday of the name. "She's decisive and she knows what she wants."
Although little Metallica has already been baptized, the Swedish National Tax Board refused to register the name, saying it was associated with both the rock group and the word "metal."

1. Dio & Vixen are great names
And I actually have no problem with them naming their kid Metallica.

As long as you aren't naming your kid Douchebag, Asshole or Fuckface I figure it aint my business.
Who the fuck do the swedes think they are?

8. the thing is, if the family was in the US, there'd be no problem
most European nations, though, have rules about naming.

Tends to stop the stupid crap some people want to name theire kids (and do in this country), but is really invasive to personal privacy, IMO.

2. I kinda like the name
Scholastika. It sounds like a scholarly woman, a librarian or something.

3. I don't like the idea of having to have permission to give my kid a certain name.
I can see if there are copyright issues, but otherwise, I'd be pissed.

And no, I wouldn't name my child Metallica.

I'd call her Pantera.

;)

4. I don't see what the big deal is.
I named my firstborn son Toad the Wet Sprocket, and he's well-adjusted. So are my daughters Hüsker Dü and Scraping Foetus off the Wheel.
