This is sooooooo wrong: Tom Selleck to play Eisenhower
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - "These are the final days of my moustache," Tom Selleck declares.

Selleck isn't surprised that critics are already lining up to ask why he was chosen to play Dwight Eisenhower in the upcoming A&E telefilm "Ike: Thunder in June." In fact, just weeks before production is scheduled to begin on the original movie, Selleck's full head and full lip of hair remain untouched and decidedly anti-Eisenhowerian.

"When I head about it, my first question was, 'Why me?'" Selleck concedes. "I'm not sure I'd be my first choice."

4. What's the issue?
As far as I'm concerned, let James Brolin play Reagan even if he sleeps with Barbra "I'm not liberal. That's too conservative." Streisand. And let Selleck play Ike despite all the reasons that's a silly idea. Besides, anyone who gets their history from movies should be forced to listen to Oliver Stone's theories on JFK and then get laughed out of a lecture hall for quoting them.

What? Oversharing?

16. Selleck is a republican...so he'll shave his head and face,...
Edited on Tue Jan-13-04 12:50 AM by BackDoorMan
Ike was the classic, do nothing, don't fix it if it's not broken, stay the course, paranoid about the communist, republican...

Will they talk about his long love affair with his assistant? The republicans in congress forcing the two year presidential term Amendment (after sixteen years of ELECTED, FDR & democratic rule) his almost blind eye towards civil rights, until he was pushed into a corner? Nixon as his VP? Not a great Supreme Commander by any means, And what he's most known for...because he spoke out about in one of his final speeches, about the rise of the corporations and the "Military Industrial Complex" what did he do in eight years to curb it?

Nothing, do nothing!

13. That's too bad--yes, he had a very distinctive voice
And he was the ONE person on the show who deserved an Emmy!

Can't believe Selleck won one!

14. I am ashamed of you all being against this just because Tom leans right
You should be against this because Selleck SUCKS as an actor.

That's why I'm apalled. His fifteen of fame in that miserably overwrought Magnum PI are long over, and there's no reason anyone should ever talk to him.

And is he really rightwing? I know he's pro the right to have guns, but so am I. But beyond that, I know nothing of his political stances. Probably, I'm sure, I've always ignored everything about him because I despise him as an "actor" so much.

15. He's no Johnny Depp
that's for sure. But Magnum PI was really important when I was 12. :D

And yes, oddly I did come to prefer John Hillerman's voice to everything else about that show. TS was inoffensive at best. I loed the scenes of Hawaii. Since I'll probably never actually see it.

17. He did ads for the National Review on TV for years
You're more than just a gun nut RWer to be a fan of that rag.

But yeah, he does suck as an actor. Much like Reagan, and Heston, and Norris, and Stallone, and... on and on...
