What Triumph/Rik Emmett song would a non-Canadian most likely know? |
|
Rik Emmett is playing a show near here to benefit my old high school's music program. I was thinking about going, but I'm not sure if I actually know any Triumph/Rik Emmett songs. What song of theirs/his would a non-Canadian most likely know?

I would say Magic Power (The one that goes "I'm young...I'm wild, and I'm free") is their biggest song. But also Fight The Good Fight, Lay It On The Line, Spellbound. Again, your familiarity with Classic Rock Radio is probably the biggest benchmark as to whether you would know any of these.

4. "Hot time in this city tonight", "say good-bye" |

Even if you do not know any songs, I would say go, if it is affordable, if you like 80s metal ala Van Halen or Rush.

7. Rik Emmet is a GREAT GUITARIST! |
|
Incredibly versatile. Capable of playing a number of different styles: rock, hard rock, jazz, blues, fusion, fingerstyle acoustic, and classical. He may not be playing Triumph songs exclusively. He left the band some time ago and after that Triumph disintergrated without him. He's been doing alot of his own solo and collaborative work, all kinds of stuff. As I understand it he even did some teaching at one of Canada's universities teaching the music business. I do recall he left the band thinking they had gone as far as they could go success wise. His two bandmates wanted to go metal. He didn't want any part of it and left. Rik Emmett is doing all sorts of stuff while the other two are nowhere to be seen. Guess the last laugh is on them.
Should be a good show! But I do expect he will do a few Triumph tunes along with a mix of his own solo stuff.
Two tunes that come to mind that you may know "Magic Power", "World of Fantasy" and "Never Surrender". If you want to get an idea of his guitar skill listen to a clip of "Midsummer's Daydream"
