42. Charles Napier is a fine character actor.
A lot of good stuff...he did a nice bit in "The Grifters" several years ago.

Charles Napier also does voiceover stuff...he's been on "The Simpsons" quite a few times, as well as one of my favorite animated series, "The Critic". :-)

'The Masterpiece Society' falls under the stupid category; especially when the opposite moral message was given in 'The Ensigns of Command'!

The one with the Earps and the OK Corral.

I can just see the writers sitting around a table completely out of ideas.

"Yeah right. Next thing you'll be telling us we can reuse some 1930's gangster set."

I think the third (and last) season of ST TOS pretty much sucked. Fred Frieberger, who went on to become a head of NBC, was at the helm of Trek.

16. The original Trek was very expensive to make...
The original pilot, "The Cage", alone cost nearly $1,000,000. Which, in 1964 standards, was a truckload of money.

Almost the same amount was spent on the Batcave set (1966)...

19. I distinctly remember a "Voyager" episode when they encounter Amelia Earhart.
I don't remember the rationale...they entered a wormhole or something...and they arrive on a planet where the crew encounters Amelia Earhart. Lord almighty, I thought it was completely idiotic. Needless to say, that was the LAST time I watched "Voyager".

granted, there are some clunkers- but overall it's a very good addition to the star trek saga.

i just hope there's another series to come...maybe a couple decades or so after the tng,ds9,stv era.

24. Things improve a bit when 7-o-9 arrives and Kes leaves...
But it is a show of acquired taste.

Which isn't always a bad thing; mainstream mindless mush is almost always less appealing than a targeted audience show that may or may not appeal to me.

36. Short version of Strugeon's Law: 90% of everything is crud.
Only 50% dung is better than average.

When you consider what was involved in putting an hour long scifi episode, it's amazing the thing got done at all, let alone some real quality work.

1. Hyper egos. I gather the cast weren't all buddies.

2. The suits. Will the public accept a character with pointed ears?

3. Censors. I would have like to been present when they dropped Kirk/Uruha's smooch on the desk.

4. Budget. A real problem, especially the third year.

5. Writing: Trying to come with anything fresh and interesting with all these constraints, plus the setting.

38. But according to the writer who did the Tribble episode, the censors
nixed any exposure of the underside of a lady's breasts. Show 'em right down to the nips, but not right up to. Some southern exposure could have done wonders for the stinkers?

Since "Spock's Brain" and "Specter Of The Gun" were already mentioned, I'll go with the third-worst.

Even Frank Gorshin couldn't save that episode. It was a good attempt at pointing out the idiocy of racism, but the delivery really sucked.

EDIT: "Eden" was unintentionally hilarious as well. "The Paradise Syndrome" was also idiotic. I AM KIROK!

52. Original series: The one where Kirk lives with the Native Americans
He forgets who he is somehow, and he lives with a tribe on some planet that's exactly like a stereotypical Native American plains tribe (with teepees and everything). The moment when, during a voiceover, he hugs himself on the top of a hill while thinking, "I love me!" is the worst Star Trek moment ever. Unbelievably cheesy.
