I finally got a can of Fix-a-Flat!! |
|
I can't believe it took this long! Over a week!!!
I've been trying to get my son to pick up a can but between his school hours and his part-time job and the hours that the stores are open, we both kept forgetting.
So, before the monsoon arrives, I'm going to try and get my tire repaired. Or at least add some air at the station! I'm going to buy a used rim and tire Tuesday. It looks like the rim has a dent, hence the slow leak, I guess.
I hate doing this stuff. ;) But we also need groceries. Can't put it off any longer.
Positive side is, I saved a lot of gas this last week! :)

1. dont rely on that stuff for more than a few miles |
|
it can cause a complete blowout if you are not careful. It's dangerous stuff

2. Seconded. It's just supposed to get you to the nearest garage for a proper repair. |
|
It's not a permanent fix.

for a small puncture that stuff works great - trust me I know flats. I've had "real" repairs that never took so it can go either way.
bent rim is a bit more of a problem - sometimes you can hammer it back out so it will hold air fine, other times not. Also a risk of out of balance wheel - more of a problem at high speeds.
I LOVE flat fixit. Saved my ass from walking MANY MANY times. On the other hand the price has gotten ridiculous and a "real" repair is often cheaper (free at Discount tire, by the way - and a lot of times they don't even ask if you bought the tire there)

No shit!! Cool!! Maybe I'll drive on down there, but that's about 8 miles. I think.

6. they fix their tires free, but I have had them fix other ones on occasion and |
|
there was no charge. Even if they charge you it won't be much.
If the flatfixit works you can add air. If you have a slow leak (how long does it hold until it goes totally flat?) it should work.
If your tire still has a fair amount of air LET IT OUT - the flat fixit will fill better if the tire is completely deflated. then drive slowly for a couple miles to puff it up and make the plug take - then you can add more air.
be careful screwing the can or the hose (two different kinds) in - sometimes they pop off and you can lose the foam.

8. Thank You for the advice! |

I think I'll use his car today and go to the station with my car on Tuesday. He's on school break next ten days, so he can follow me on Tuesday.
Off to the grocery store and the packie for necessities!!
Got to get ready for the storm!!

will it be okay if I add some air?? Or will I have another flat in a day or two? That station with the air is less than a quarter mile and the grocery store is even less than that.
Now you have me a little worried :scared: and :dilemma:
Should I just use his car today and then use the Fix-a-Flat on Tuesday?

7. That stuff is highly flammable, and is designed |
|
to get you to the nearest service location; nothing more. Not only that, make sure you let the mechanic know you used fix-a-flat...otherwise it will likely explode while he's removing the tire from the rim.

10. My dad had a can of that stuff explode in his trunk |
|
fortunately it didn't blow up his car or anything but he had a hell of a time cleaning out all the foam from the trunk

11. yeah tell the guy. Around here they all just know everybody uses it and they |
|
know to watch for it. I remember back before it was sold everywhere, in every circle k - the tire guys would get really pissed if you forgot to tell them - the cans even used to have little stickers to put on the tires, now I think most know to ask or just assume it has been used.
