She was so nervous that I had to carry smelling salts (YES!!!) in my glove in case she fainted. Do you understand how difficult it was to find smelling salts back then? Thank the gods she didn't need them. I thought it ridiculous.

There was one, a few years later, of a cousin whose bride was so scared shitless that she sobbed throughout the ceremony. My cousin is a great guy and everyone on our side regarded the spectacle with horror. Jeez. But the cousins are still married, though no one likes the wife. Sadly, the cousin looks like Newt Gingrich and has similar politics.
Their eldest son attended University of Texas, met a Mexican-American liberal Catholic, and changed parties and religions when he married. The cousin and his wife are still aghast. I hope it will change when the first grandchild arrives.
