If you work on a network computer do you poke your nose |

around in other peoples files on their hard drives that are not work related? What would you think if a fellow employee had a pic out of your personal file and loaded it as his desktop?

Not only that - but as IT I have access (or could easily have access) to EVERYONE'S documents, email, internet browsing habits - you name it. I don't have any desire to spend my day browsing other people's stuff. My bosses are very privacy minded, as am I.

But when IT notices that you've stored 50 GB of MP3 downloads and the last 3 years vacations pictures on your portion of the network server, don't be surprised if someone mentions it. When space was running low we found lots of pictures and music files that clearly were not work related, and we gave people a week to get them off - then they were deleted. Network space at work isn't free or private.
But just snooping on someones machine for no reason, thats unethical.

4. It was harmless, yet it was creepy. |

All he had to do was ask if I had a cool pic he could use for a desktop. I approached him on it and nicely told him that it was kinda rude. The only problem was the office manager heard me and the guy had been in his stuff also.

And I have access to info on a lot of people, normal, political, rich and famous. It's wrong to poke around, especially in my position.
I'd be creeped out if I found an employee doing that. And very, very angry.
