How would I remove all the pages from a hardcover book?
I would like the front, back, and spine intact. I'm thinking of cutting with an x-acto(sp?) knife and taking a belt sander to the remainder.

Any other ideas on how to do this.

1. I've hollowed a book out before
to make a place to stash stuff, but I have never had the desire for the cover alone.

You could always heat it in the microwave and see if the glue holding the binding in tact fails.

If it is an older book, the binding may be more secure and that won't work.

Your idea sounds like it will work to me.

3. I hadn't thought about heat.
If you want to know why I am doing this. Think wallpaper. It could be cool. Most likely it will look like shit.

5. that's a lot of book binding
but it would be cool looking if you take the time to do it.

4. Are you having it rebound?
Put the belt sander away!
Use the x-acto to cut the paper hinge between the covers and endpapers. The cover and spine should come away.
If you want to remove the glue and paper on the spine, use a damp sponge to slowly remove it. Not too much water, it will damage the paper. And, if it's not a sewn book, the paper and glue are all that hold the signatures together.
