so I got a job offer. in the mortgage industry again
unfortunately, that's where the large part of my experience is. sigh. it's a soul-killer BUT it sure would help for my daughters--one college freshman, and two in hs headed to college. It is temp-to hire with benefits. I think I have to do this.
I wouldn't be working mortgages but admin. ass't to the local 5 vps. Tell me I'm doing the right thing. I will try to keep the retail job for a few shifts where I've been having a good time. I was laid off 4/25/06

1. You're doing the right thing
:)

I think it's probably good to try to keep the retail job while you give yourself a couple weeks to see how the admin ass't job is. Maybe you'll find you really enjoy the VPs you admin for, and the job isn't a soul-killer after all.

If it is a soul-killer, you can quit, and still be a paycheck or so ahead of where you are now.

I hope things work out the best for you.

:hi:

3. thanks for the hug
in many ways I wish the retail gig paid enough to make into the FT thing, but that's not going to happen. The district manager offered to make me a full time sales associate with benefits but their payroll budget just isn't going to compete with the mortgage bank. So I'll give an affirmative on Monday.....and if I hate it my headhunter will try again. She's awesome. :hi:

5. We love our admin ass't...
She works with like three or four of our VPs. She's awesome. I'm sure you'll do great. I'm in the mortgage industry as well. I like it a lot, although I can't vouch for the people you will work with, but I highly recommend it. Because think about it, even when the economy sucks, you're going to have a job.

6. I worked myself right out of my last mortgage job
I came in as a temp to clear a 2+year post closing backlog. Eventually I was made permanent, worked funding and some WHEDA and got post closing up to date--then one day as I was thanked for helping out in another dept, I said I was happy to help out now that new mortgages had slowed down and I was up to date. I was laid off the next day. grrrrr. :hi:
