Quick question...
no medical advice sought...just one quick question.

Can you buy Neosporin Eye Drops over the counter? Are there any other brands that contain antibiotics that are over-the-counter?

Thanks.

2. Dang it.
I'm out of my prescribed antibiotic eye drops...and one of my eyes is feeling a little goopy. Probably allergies, but I sure would like to not have to go to the doc to get a prescription.

:(

3. Mexico?
Just kidding. - eyes ... eh one area I get nervous about self-diagnosing. Try cleaning real well several times with sterile saline, might be able to jsut flush the problem away.

8. I was thinking more really flushing than just drops.
What kind of volume are we talking about? You can get a 12 oz bottle for a couple of bucks as opposed to the tiny bottles of "moisturizing" type drops.

4. My dear Maddy...
I don't think you can, darn it...

And why in blue blazes can we buy antibiotic ointment for our small infections in ears or fingers...

But not for our eyes?

It makes me mad!

:grr:

Hope your eyes get better, and without a trip to the doctor...

5. Thanks, Peggy.
My son and I have been to the doctor several times in the past couple of months, for other stuff. I broke my hand last month; he wrenched his back on his pogo stick; and I just don't want to have to go back again.

Aargh.

Thanks for the kind wish.

7. Maddie
Stephanie says to tell you to try plain old visine. It is decongestant, and may help with allergy related stuff until you can call your doc and get a script. Antibiotic drops are now available OTC in the UK, but not here yet.

That "get the red out" stuff is a decongestant.

11. Will do!
(remember she was a paramedic before she started this liberal arts BS ;) )

She said the saline was only good for cleansing; that the visine would help with symptomatic "stuff" til you could get a scrip called in.

Keep us updated.

12. Call your friendly neighbor pharmacist.
That's their job, to answer questions like this and suggest what you can get over the counter.

Sorry you are feeling badly, hope you get to feeling better

21. There are also OTC allergy eye drops
Visine makes one specifically for allergies and I think Murine also. Outside of allergic asthma, I think eye allergies are the worst kind. Hope you feel better soon. And remember if it doesn't clear see your doctor because your eyes are precious. If you have a long-standing relationship with the doc she/he might be willing to just call in a refill w/o an office visit. Oh, one more thing I just thought of, a bunch of the drugstores here now have a PA or NP on staff to do rapid diagnosis of things like strep, pinkeye and so on. It's about 35 bucks to see them, might be cheaper than the doctor.

My regular pharmacy does have NP on staff, but they aren't open now, and won't open until Monday morning...I'm going to try the stuff that wildhorses recommended above.

Thanks. :hi:

We can buy Neosporin antibiotic products OTC. I regularly use Neosporin cream on cuts and burns to facilitate quicker healing.
