It seems there're some misconceptions about MySpace
It's just a profile, only bigger. You could make it self-aggrandizing, but you certainly don't have to. You can blog... or not. You can post tons of photos... or not. You can post videos... or not. You can "pimp" your page... or not. (Personally, I'd rather you didn't, because it makes it take forever to load.)

I like it for connecting with friends, both new and old. (I just added someone I haven't seen since I was about 18 and someone else I've known from DU for only a few months.) But it doesn't have to be about "collecting friends."

I also like it for discovering bands, like the Ditty Bops.

And it isn't just for emo kids. A recent survey showed that something like 38 percent of users are over 40.

Okay, that'll do. Flame on.

1. I would probably have one
But there are some people who I don't want to know me. There are also a couple of people who I don't want to find me. :scared:

Besides, I'm on dial up. It would probably take me forever and a day just to create a page.

2. There is a way to keep your profile private, and only let those
you want to have access to it. Sorry to say I'm not absolutely sure how it's done, as mine is open to everyone, but the site can tell you how to do it.

4. I just totally "privatized" my kid's
He can only be contacted by people who know his email and last name. NO ONE over 18. Trust me, we have had lots of talks, he is very careful. Anyway they do have security if you are looking for it.

12. Good idea!
I have not had many problems (of course, I am WAAAAY over 18, so obviously kiddie-stalkers is not a problem here), but I have gotten a couple of messages that were, shall we say, pretty inappropriate from complete strangers. I alterted on them, and the person was gone.

6. Search for premade layouts.
They will have an html code for you to copy and paste into your About Me section on the edit profile screen.

Just paste the one you want. Hit save and view profile. It should work for you.

Good luck!
:hi:

9. I'm sure it's not you.
It's most likely MySpace being that way.

Sorry.

Sorry if it takes to long to load my "pimped" page. I think it's pretty. :P

11. If it's just a background, it's no big deal
Hell, mine's got a background.

I'm talking about those loaded with pics and, especialy, videos.

Anyway, it's largely on my end because I have slow DSL (about 300kB down).

:hi:

15. Actually, yeah
I live in the burboonies (too far outa town for the burbs, too close for the boonies), so I didn't think I could get DSL at all when I moved here. I felt pretty lucky to get even the slowest version.

And I can't get cable at all — which is fine, except for ball games. And the History Channel. And whatever Discovery channel has all the airplane stuff and WWII stuff. But I get two PBS stations via antenna, and I've fallen in love with them. (I'm watching one right now.)

17. My in-laws live in the burboonies, too.
They have a dish though. Mom can't live without her sports and March Madness, and dad can't live without....ummmmm....whatever it is he watches.

We like to visit them because they get Free Speech TV and Democracy Now! I'm so jealous.

7. It's just another way to interact w/ others
I use it for my station and my music stuff and haven't regretted it; I met some great bands (and people) in the process. People use something like the lounge for the most self-absorbed reasons; same thing w/ myspace or other like-minded sites. There are many more who don't, also just like the lounge. Just like life, actually.

19. I tired it once but the design is so awful
It looks horrible and half the time it doesn't work anyway. So I gave up.
