Worst comedian ever?
Edited on Mon Apr-23-07 02:39 AM by Bicoastal
First of all, if you haven't seen Little's groan-worthy "comedy" act at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, here it is in its entirety].

As painfully unfunny as this was, it did represent George Bush's spectacularly incompetent, out-of-touch presidency to a T. So assuming that things get even worse next year, which "comedian" would be a good representative follow-up in 2008?

Carrot Top?

Carlos Mencia?

Kathy Griffin?

Rob Schneider?

Gallagher?

37. I'll go one better. I think Andy Kaufman was a genius.
I read as much as I could about his life and his work. He wasn't a comic per se, but used comedic mechanisms. What he did was play with reality. The audience would be led into believing one thing and Kaufman would take another reality to replace the one he has just established (even at the expense of the audience becoming HOSTILE to Kaufman).

Without being introduced to Andy Kaufman, I never would have been able to understand how Karl Rove's mind works. It's very similar as you are not told the truth and misled purposely by his message away from the truth. Almost like pathologic lying for recreation.

19. I was going to say Sam Kineson or Bill Hicks, but you win.
Sam Kineson thought screaming about ex girlfriends was funny, Bill Hicks thought screaming about banal inside jokes was funny. Now and then, at least, they were.

Dane Cook... has anyone ever laughed at him without a cue card telling them to?

24. I'm surprised by people who like them but hate Andrew Dice Clay?
What, they're funnier because they died? They had the same schtick!

To be fair, a lot of people liked Hicks because they felt he was iconoclastic and even sort of liberal. He wasn't my brand of liberal, but he was trying, between insane screaming bouts, to say something. I never thought Kineson was.

Give me Lenny Bruce or Richard Pryor over Hicks any day, though.

31. I had never heard Hicks until fairly recently
but I saw some of his DVD's at the store and picked them up, expecting the best. A LOT of people whose taste I really admire just adored the guy.

Watched 'em and my response was a big, gaping "meh". I just don't get the worship.

The other one that people raved and raved about was Mitch Hedberg. I saw him live, and he was, undoubtedly, the very worst comic I've ever seen. It was excruciating.

46. I TiVoed a special of his this weekend
Heberg that is. I had read (here) wildly guffawing praise of him and had two friends who saw him live say that he was hilarious..

I didn't find much of it really all that inciteful, which he clearly was going for, and the delivery ugh that delivery I finally decided that it was a take on the dumb football player schtick that a guy did on a "Young comedians" special on HBO hosted by Dangerfield.

It was interesting but not near a level of what I had been lead to believe. No offense but I stopped taking advice about comedy or music* or movies from DU a while ago.

34. Sorry
no topic is NEVER EVER not funny.

Did you see "The Aristocrats"? Virtually every telling of the joke had incest references, and the movie was piss-your-pants funny. Saget was one of the highlights.

I saw Saget live last year - he was hysterical. He certainly didn't build a routine around incest, but his whole schtick WAS about being inappropriate, and it was very funny.
