Favorite Beatlesque song by a non-Beatles group/performer?
I'd have to say mine is "Coming Up Roses" by Elliott Smith:

1. Just about anything by Crowded House
Their harmonies are decidedly Beatlesque and their lyrics are very intelligent.

Also, "That Thing You Do" from the film of the same name.

7. "Out Of My Head" by Fastball.
It sounds like a tribute to George Harrison.

The subject matter is not very Beatles-esque, but the arrangement and instumentation are. The intro sounds a little like the intro to "Let It Be", and the guitar interlude is pure George Harrison.

Great song. B-)

39. Great song. I've heard this song and assumed it was the Beatles.
BTW, the lead singer looks a bit like Darryl Hammond from SNL.

Although my choices would be "Mole From the Ministry" (Dukes of Stratosphere) or "The Good Fight" (8th Grade).

41. I'm writing a reminder note to myself now.
"They use an airbrush here
To make the skin seem clean
of blemishes or scars.....

Over time
a need is born inside
runs its course
now it runs the show
with a show of potent force."

26. I LOVE World Party.
Are you familiar with Sweet Soul Dream?

I'd give you all my money
Abandon that beatiful girl
Take my books
My choicest looks
And burn them all today
I've got rare '61 Beatles
I got a feilm of my dreams
But I'd lose them all
Burn em all
Go along without all of it
Give up the chances I see
If you'd take me up

Raise me up
Let me know the heart of it
Give me your sweet soul dream
Give me your sweet soul dream

35. Tell me about it !!
that's a great song!! They're one of the coolest, most slept-on bands of the 90s. "Goodbye Jumbo" and "Bang" are great albums. I wonder what they're up to these days.

37. Actually, the band is together. They toured last summer and I saw them ...
They were great! The crowd here in Portland was small, which was unfortunate. As you said, they never got their due. They should have been huge. Karl Wallinger had a brain aneurysm several years ago, and had to relearn to walk and talk, etc. He is back and in good form as a singer/musician. Amazing recovery.

I think "Goodbye Jumbo" is one of my top three favorite albums of all time for any performer.

Belated welcome to DU! :hi:

23. Yep...
Also, "Day After Day".. (George Harrison's slide in there, and what sounds like Paul doing some backgrounds later in the song)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT-FwBPcETs

And, the McCartney tune "Come and Get It"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jWFSHwJnWo

I wish Apple and Apple would come to terms so I could get the original albums off of iTunes.

22. Anything off the 1st Big Star record, most anything by XTC.
Satanic Majesties by the Stones and a lot of what the Beach Boys did too.

Pretty much anything with harmonies and a melody is "Beatlesque"- so I like a lot that would fit that description...

I thought was a concept album almost patterned after Sgt. Papper's.

But look at the Oranges and Lemons cover:

A deliberate parody (Eric Idle and Neil Innes), but pretty good music nonetheless, and their mockumentary "All You Need Is Cash" is great.

31. Here's an odd one...
..."All Those Yesterdays" by................Pearl Jam

While Vedder's voice doesn't sound anything like the Beatles, listen to the arrangement, in particular the bassline and the horns in the background. Kind of caught me by surprise the first time I heard it.
