Poll question: Do you think a one hour commute (one way to work) is worth moving
Mr. B and I both live an hour from work.
Opposite side of the city from where we live but I work in the North and he works in the South.

No matter what, one of us is going to still end up with at least a 30 minute commute.

I can work from home so the commute is not so bothersome...Mr. B can't.

My kids are used to the schools here, my family is close by...and I am just not the kind of person who likes moving.

He wants a bigger home (not a mega home but a bit more room)...and to be closer to work...(I would say the bigger home is a bigger issue for him).

So whaddya think?

Worth it?

2. If you can, I'd say absolutely.
However, a 1 hour commute is rather common, especially if you live in the city. Still, you have to value your personal time. Even if you cut it in half, that's an extra hour each day you'd have to yourself. Could you really use that extra hour?

5. for me the extra hour has always been a time to decompress
it was my hour to and from work to think...unwind...so that when I come home I am ready for my family ...or ready to start work when I get there..

However my husband is surgically connected to his bluetooth...so he accomplishes a lot of work in the car...but he somehow thinks that if he was closer he would come home and have more home time..but he is a work-aholic...and I am not sure..

I was hoping that if we got a larger home with an extra bedroom, my mom could come to live with us...since she is retired and taking care of her home has become quite tiresome...

6. well if the school you are going to move into is of the same/better standard i dont see the problem
if they were in HS, they might resent you more for moving them

7. I would say yes, it's worth it
For several reasons. For one thing, it's not just the time of the commute - the longer you're on the road, the more chance of some idiot creaming you or your husband. So I take that into account, too when I think about commuting time.

Your husband would like more room and you say you'd like to have room for your mom. Those are good reasons.

And if the kids are still in elementary school, it's a good time to move - they'll be better able to adapt now than later and it's likely that if you stay where you are, all these issues are not going to go away.

I'd certainly consider it - it seems reasonable to me.

Oh, and nobody I've ever met likes moving.

8. hmm, wonder if you could find a bigger house still in your school dist???
it's hard to change schools if you like the arrangment you have. Were you thinking the city? There are lots of suburban schools north and south, plus the magnets,etc....

10. howdy Tigereye!
:hi:

I love our current district and don't know enough about the districts closer to my husband's job...

Right now my son is on the main campus for our district..he is still in elementary but in what they call intermediate and he has one more year there before he starts junior high.

9. I would NEVER commute more than 20-30 min to work...
...and prefer to live as close as possible. I'm less than 10 miles from my workplace and it's a pleasant bike ride, too!

11. Since I have an hour and a half commute one way,
I voted yes to an hour one. Unless I get stuck in traffic because of an accident, then it goes up.
