He told it during a concert, about being dragged to some Chicago dive to hear a guy play him a song. He said he hated doing that because the songs were always crap. He agreed to sit and listen if the guy bought him a beer. He said it was the best beer he ever had.
The song the guy played was Train From the City of New Orleans.
The guy of course was Steve Goodman.
