I recently completed a satisfying download session collecting over a hundred anti-Bush, anti-war topical songs in all genres: folk, pop, reggae, rap, DJ/mix, rock, etc., etc.
And then I grew curious. "Is there any *pro-Bush* music out there for download?" I mean, in these days of Cakewalk and the Internet, *anyone* can make music at some level of quality, so what are the dead-enders among the 28% doing, artistically, to express their support of Schimpanski and his policies? After all, I remember a lot of jingoistic crap coming out right after 9/11, and a year or so ago there was "Bush Was Right" -- which wasn't terrible, as samizdat music goes.
But what's the situation now?
A vast wasteland. While googling "anti-bush music" will get you millions of hits, "pro-bush music" comes up with about 20 hits, none of which actually link to songs.
This, of course, feeds into every prejudice I have about rightwingers -- uncreative, unfunny, unsharing, etc., etc., but I wonder: Is this a true situation? Do true believers simply not write songs and release them on the Internet?
I'd really like to listen to a selection to get some feel for where these people are coming from, because a song is such a unique focus of expression it requires thought and selectivity, thus filtering out mindless spew of the Hannity-Limbaugh-Coulter type, and might just reveal something interesting or useful.
One can always hope.
