I have been bad this weekend
Well not THAT kind of bad (more's the pity). But I splurged on new speakers for my computer (well they were only $80). I figured that since my computer is my primary music machine (I no longer have a cd player that works), it might as well sound good. Unfortunately, even at 80 watts it is a bit too loud, considering how big a pain my neighbors are. So I can't really blow it out.

I also bought a Nintendo DS. I did not want to replace my GameCube that the thieves stole, because I will eventually get a Wii, which will play whatever GameCube games I have left. Of course as soon as I bought the DS, I found a Wii for sale at Target. I did restrain myself from purchasing it. But I kicked myself for not checking the stores today for the Wii. Yesterday, several salespeople told me I missed it by a day, so at least they seem to be getting some in from time to time. But I was bored and my toys were all stolen this week.

But I know I am driving or flying to Minnesota (from Texas) this summer and, either way, that will cost me some, even if I share a hotel room. And the state lege has not seen fit to offer us poor state workers a raise during this session (or at least the bills have not been finalized if they have). My salary does not keep pace with inflation. In fact, if they raise copayments for insurance, I might actually be going backwards, so I probably ought to limit frivolous spending.

Now playing: Sirius Disorder (they are having some kind of show on New Orleans music- very cool).

1. You haven't been bad
You've just been self indulgent. Big difference.

2. I guess that's true
It's just sort of out of character.

3. This will be the first time in five years that we are NOT going to Minnesota in the summer.
*sigh*

4. The only reason I am going is to visit my grandmother
who has been in a nursing home for a year since her stroke. She is doing okay I guess. But she is 90 years old and who knows how much longer she's going to be around.

I just cringe at the thought of what gas prices might be in two months. But flying is hideously expensive too, especially from here. It costs about $100 more (at least) to fly out of Corpus Christi than it does from San Antonio, Houston or Austin. And then they airport people go on the local news and ask "Why do people need to fly from other airport?" Well, duh, because it's too expensive or you can't get there from here. For a city of it's size (roughly 300K people) it sure is a backwater place.
