I vote for gasoline rationing.
We did it in the 70's - we can do it again. Anyone who drives a hybrid is exempt from rationing.

Seems fair to me. I don't drive a hybrid - have a '98 VW Beetle and an '03 Honda Accord. I'd trade 'em both in for a Prius right now if I could get the hubby to agree to it.

1. what kind of mileage does your Beetle get?
i have an 07 convertible, mostly top up and the mileage is not good, or not as good as the sticker proclaims.

4. I probably get 24 - 26 on the freeway - certainly nowhere close to
what the Prius gets and I'm damned tired of being jerked around by the oil companies. I love the maneuverability of the Beetle and prefer driving it over the Accord. I'm sure I'd adapt to the Prius pretty well.

2. Works for me.
I can barter some of my rations, I don't use much gas.

5. We're in the $3.35 - 3.50 range in the SF Bay Area.
Costs me close to $40.00 to fill up now in the Beetle.

7. .........
:puke:

Thats...I'm sorry....:(

For our Dodge Intrepid...if it was empty, it would cost around $43 (guesstimate) to fill up...we got a 16 gal tank...

Usually we can get just over 400 miles, and still have a gal, or two left before refilling...

9. I remember the gas rationing in the 70s
My dad worked at a gas station part time (in addition to his full time job), and the owner let him open the station in the middle of the night so we could get gas. However, I was required by my dad to take the bus to the community college I was attending at the time, and not allowed any "frivolous" driving. A tank of gas would last me a month or more. My parents had to use their cars to get to work, except that dad would walk to the station when he worked there, because it was only a mile or so from our house.

Now, I work from home, so often don't drive unless I have an appointment I have to go to. MrSG's car isn't working right now so he uses mine to get to work. On days I need to go do an appointment, he takes the bus so I can use the car.

We could deal with rationing.

10. Yes - I believe it is the only thing that will get the attention of drivers
nationwide. All we are doing right now is just a little bit of grumbling and no one is doing anything concrete about the oil companies' hold over us. I'm sick of it.

12. Yeah - I'm with you in the kicking ass department.
Wish there were millions more in this country who feel the same.
