Name the best rock song to have ever been made!
I know, I know...........lame copycat.

I vote for Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin. My all time fave. Brown Sugar by the Stones is a very close second.

And you?

59. True story
A friend of mine owns a nightclub, and he booked Warrant to play a gig a couple of years ago. On the day of the show, he said he had to go and meet up with the band at their hotel. Now, my recollection of Warrant was from the MTV hair metal heyday, so I assumed they were staying at the Raddison, the closest thing Manchester has to a decent hotel. I said as much, only to have my friend reply, "no, the Super Eight on Brown Ave by the airport".

No word on whether or not they are currently opening for puppet shows...

First sang by The Byrds, it's been covered many times over the years. My favorite version is the live rendition by Golden Earring on their first Live album.

14. Oktoberain and i are now at an impasse over what is meant by "rock"
She interprets this as starting with Elvis, Chuck Berry, or The Beatles...
I interpreted it to have started with the bands that developed a heavier sound, trying to avoid being lumped in with the aforementioned lighter fare.

If she's right, then i'd go with "Johnny B Good"... it's a classic.

If i am, then i'd go with The Stones "Street Fighting Man" for it's raw energy.

"I'm just a soul whose intentions are good, oh lord please don't let me be misunderstood"

"It's a hard world to get a break in, all the good things have been taken"

"We gotta get outta this place, if it's the last thing we ever do"

There weren't many singers that could belt them out like Eric Burdon, IMHO except for Van Morrison and Steve Winwood.

I had Tarot Woman on 8-track, album and CD. I love that CD. "If You Don't Like Rock and Roll" is also a good rock and roll song. I saw one of Rainbow's DVDs at Borders yeaterday and am still debating on whether or not I should get it. It's from 1975 and I am afraid that once it's gone it will be really hard to find.I'll probably get it the next time I go.

I smell a Boomer trend on this thread, so this child of the 1980s will chime in. These might not be "the greatest" by any rational measure, but they're the songs that I keep coming back to:

"This Is The Sea", And a Bang on the Ear", The Waterboys
"Come With Me" and "O, Lazarus", by Translator
"The Electric Co.", U2
"Feeling Gravity's Pull", "Harborcoat", REM
"Spirit of '76" (live version), The Alarm
"Tall Ships Go", Big Country
"Into The Valley", The Skids
"Fun and Games", The Connells
"Grey Cell Green", Ned's Atomic Dustbin (ok, it's from 1990. Sue me.)
"Arrogance", The Neighborhoods
"Tilted Track", The Outlets
"Soap, Soup, and Salvation", Lone Justice
"Gunslinger Man", Long Ryders
"The Hungry Wolf" and "Fourth of July", X
"Spun Gold", The Three O'Clock

I went to some of their shows and was mildly entertained but I never really thought of them as rock band. Maybe I was missing something.

And any 80s list needs some Replacements, like Color Me Impressed or Hold My Life.
