And I am not sure, but I think they banned Jungle Jitters like in 1966,relatively recently.

If anyone is leery about clicking the links, I looked at the Betty Boop one. It's a baby talent show where there are all sorts of stereotypes.
I find it vile, but the racist comments to the video were much worse.
It boggles the mind how anyone could defend these stereotypes and racist images in 2007.

It makes me feel like Helen Lovejoy on the Simpsons. These are mostly children defending these racist, archaic films.
Won't somebody please think of these children? These stupid, stupid children that insist "racism goes both ways, so it doesn't matter if we're racist to the "them."" :eyes:
Then I think that there are probably adults encouraging this stupidity. Their parents are probably on Free Republic or trolling around here right now.
:wtf:
Sigh.

5. I have a Daffy Duck video (big shock there,huh?) |
|
It has two WW2 cartoons on it,one about Germany and one about Japan, and they're both pretty bad, especially the Japanese one.
It was a different time...thankfully.We've got a long way to go but at least there's been some progress.
I still love Daffy Duck though

8. Not counting Southpark |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-29-07 03:58 PM by GoPsUx
But South park uses sarcasm to make a point so i don't take them as serious.Just wrong as hell sometimes Yeah we have come a long way. The Japanese ones bother me but not as much as the ones depicting african americans.

6. We've watched many of these in my History of Animation class. |
|
They're pretty abhorrent, yet, but interesting from a historical perspective.

I think to learn from the past we have to be aware of it.

10. Popeye was the worst, I think |
|
The Little Black Sambo cartoon was the best of the three, I think. There werent' any jokes there that wouldn't be in Dave Chappelle skit, the black-colored baby powder or the 'tigers like dark meat' reference.
The YouTube comments on the Betty Boop 'toon are disgusting, some of them.

12. Disney is considering releasing Song of the South on DVD |
|
It's been in the vaults since it's last theatrical revival in 1986.
I have mixed feelings on it. It has historical interest. Was one of the first to mix animation and live action. It should exist for collectors, biut should be packaged and promoted as such and not geared toward children.

13. Boop and Sambo are clearly racist |
|
Popeye, however, was WWII propaganda. Racist to our contemporary standards, but consider the context of the times.
