The Sopranos: anyone want to discuss? SPOILER ALERT!!! |
Did Hesh's wife die of natural causes? How did Tony get the money to pay Hesh? Where are we going with this?

1. I was kinda scratching my head about that episode last night. |
The first thing I thought was that she got whacked, because Tony needs Hesh around as an ATM, yet he did want to send a message. What better way to keep Hesh in line. Hesh already thought that Tony would take him out, so maybe he starts getting a little paranoid.
I think Tony dipped into his emergency fund to pay off Hesh, the money he says is around to take care of Carm. Something in the back of my mind keeps telling me that Carmella is going to kill Tony. She left him because she thought she'd end up penniless, and I just think that with him losing all that money, them fighting about money, etc....I could see her snapping and taking him out, that would be the ultimate in irony.

4. Well, if Carm kills Tony that would certainly be a great ending. |
The more I think about it, the more I think Renata died of natural causes, but Hesh may think it was somehow Tony's doing - maybe that could lead to a revenge plot by Hesh?

3. it appeared to be natural causes, i.e., no blood and gore. It looked like |
she died in her sleep, but I guess you can't be too sure. Wasn't Tony a total bastard to Hesh? And since when does Tony have a gambling problem? This was never an issue before.

but not to this extreme.
Tony was a bastard to Carmella too last night but I loved watching those scenes.

since the series began because sometimes we order HBO and sometimes we don't. But I have watched every episode of this season so far...starting with the ones on last year.

7. I think Tony already had the money but was pulling him on a string... |
the death probably prompted him to just pay up and leave the guy alone.

10. yeah, you're probably right. He was being such a prick about paying Hesh a vig. |
Maybe he just felt sorry for him in the end.

12. See, I really think he didn't have the money, or was getting very tight. This adds a catalyst |
to get Tony to go after Phil Leotardo. Phil took out Vito, one of Tony's biggest earners, without asking for his blessing, and without giving him any financial backing to make up for the loss AND Tony's own guys aren't making up the difference, so business is getting a bit tight.
You could see him flaring up when talking about it and putting the blame on Phil. If he really had the money, I don't think you could really have Tony going after Phil like that.

13. He's real irritated with Phil for dropping the ball regarding Vito's kid, too. |
Maybe Tony will take Phil out, and be the boss of New York?
Money is getting very tight for Tony, which explains the maniacal gambling he's been doing. I wonder if he took some of Carm's spec house money to pay Hesh?
