I wonder if any birds will come to our bird feeder... |
|
I keep seeing birds on our porch, so I set up the bird feeder I bought recently...I'm sure they'll ignore it completely, now that it's there. :P

4. Is the feeder close enough to a tree or shrubs? |

They need some "cover". It also depends on what kind of seed is in there and what kinds of birds you have.

6. What do you mean by 'cover'? |
|
It's mixed bird seed for wild birds...And we have all kinds of sparrow types, starlings, bluejays, etc.

7. They don't like eating out in the open.... |
|
I guess they're just paranoid. But if you have sparrows, they should be attacking that bird seed pretty soon. They're little piggies.

9. Well, our porch has a roof over it, and there are trees next door |
|
They sure like to hang out on our railing...If they don't take to it, I might get one of those railing clamps and put it there instead. :)

Once the sparrows find it and get used to it, you won't be able to get rid of them. I think a porch is good "cover", too. When I first started feeding sparrows, I used to buy one of those little bags of mixed seed every couple of weeks. Seven years later, I had to stop feeding them altogether because I couldn't afford 50 lbs. of birdseed every week (in the winter) and there were bird droppings everywhere. (I think it's a "word of beak" thing with them).

And yes, I figure once one or two of them find it, word will spread. We have quite a hearty bird population here, as I live across from a wooded cemetery. Let's just hope the seagulls don't start stopping by too! :o

|
Maybe it'll become famous if you switch to premium blend (all sunflower seed, all of the time.)
