How many brothers and sisters do you have?
I was listening to something this morning and they were suggesting that the more siblings, the better.

I dunno. How many do you have?

1. One brother
five years younger than me, and I love him (even though he drives me nuts sometimes! :silly:). I've always thought it would be kind of cool to have a sister, but most of the time I'm glad it's just the two of us.

10. Little brothers are supposed to drive you nuts...
My kids'll attest to that. Sometimes it seems like they're trying to 'out-nuts' each other. Now that I think about it, my brothers did the same thing.

2. Three
Two sisters, one of whom has passed on, and a brother. I think the more siblings the better if you get along with all of them. If not, it's a waste.

6. One of the things that they were talking about
was, since we don't get to pick our siblings, we have to learn to be tolerant and accepting of other people, whether we like or agree with them or not.

I guess if we can get along with our siblings, we can get along with anybody.

Gives me hope for my own family.

:P

3. All depends on how you count 'em
I have three brothers and a sister by my parents.
I also have a foster brother and sister.
I have two cousins who lived with us as brother and sister.
And I have two stepbrothers and a stepsister from my dad's second marriage after my mom passed away.

So, anywhere from three to seven brothers, and from one to four sisters.

:-)

7. I hate to say it
but I don't really keep track of my steps, either. I feel badly about it sometimes, but when my father and their mother married, I was already grown and living on my own as were they, so it's not like we really bonded.

46. I don't even remember the name of my mother's current husband's (grown) kid
He lives in Oregon and I haven't met him or his partner, though my mother's shown me pictures.

Her third husband had one kid, who was a racist scumbag. I never did consider him family, but I love his kids as much as I love my own blood.

Husband #2 had a few kids who were all of an age with my Mom (she'll be 50 next week.) Lately he and his new wife have a baby, which is pretty scary because he's got to be pushing 80 and he hates kids. If I were to consider his kids family (HA!) I'd have a few sibs well into middle age and a step sister in diapers.

26. You deal with what you have to...
it's just what you know. I was the same way, though not until I was older. When my mother died, I found myself doing the cooking and the laundry and cleaning and all that stuff. For the most part I didn't resent it, but then again, I didn't have to deal with any babies -- my youngest brother was almost 12 at the time.

35. The older of my two brothers stepped into my dad's shoes when
dad dies. I was already living away from home, as was my sister closest to me in age. Our mom worked the graveyard shift, so my brother chose to stay at mom's so that mom could continue working graveyard (more money), and he could be there for the two youngest, 13 and 10 at the time.

Almost four years younger.

There are times when I wish I had more siblings. On the other hand, I got pretty lucky with the one I do have, and I don't want to tempt fate. After looking at my mom and her sister, I'm pretty thankful for my brother, even if he is a pain-in-the-ass 16 year old sometimes. :)

Of course, tomorrow, we're going to help out at my mom's school, which means the task of hauling him out of his bed at 10AM on his day off falls to me. Huzzah. :D

45. I really think that
makes a difference. Being around women makes you more sensitive to them, even if it's on a subconscious level. I was a single mom with two boys for several years and they were around a lot of women -- and they don't even have to think about it. They 'get' them.

Boy, do they get them. I've threatened to turn the hose on more than one that walked back and forth in front of our house.

an only child. When I ask her if she'd have liked to have had a sibling, she says no because she's witnessed too many fights between her friends and their siblings. She likes having our undivided attention at home and being able to "bring a friend" when we go somewhere.

77. you should call up
Girly-poo right now, get her out of bed, and have her start washing jars, and putting raspberries on to cook down, or whaever one does with them as a start to making preserves. AFAIK you need to stop and get rhubarb on your way home...

I'm sure she'd be glad to help, and learn, and let you pass on family traditions.

Hmmmmm...

113. we created a monster with the youngest one
3 older brother, all competitive athletes, he had to deal with that constantly. Not to mention all our other relatives. Everything was a big competition. But my youngest brother, he fights MMA, it was natural for him, because he had to wrestle and box around with the rest of us his whole life. We pretty much leave him alone these days, haha. :)

106. I'm a lonely only.
I always wanted siblings. Someone to share my parent's attention with. I had 100% of both their attentions. And, as well intentioned as they are, it was way too much focus on one person. There was a lot of pressure and they were (and still are) trying to make everything prefect for me. I use to beg for a brother or sister every Christmas. That's how I knew there was no Santa. As good as I was all year long and as much as I begged and wrote letters to Santa, I never got a brother or sister.

112. My sibling situation is a bit odd
All my siblings are half siblings: two sisters that I know personally, one brother (the only sibling I've actually lived with and that I trust) and two siblings - I think they're both female- that I was never told about until I was 23 yrs old. Ask me how pissed off I was about that cute little family secret.

My oldest known sister (the one who decided she didn't want to consider me family after our father died) spilled the family secret to me seven years ago that our dad was married to a woman and had a few kids with her before marrying his second wife. My mom was the third wife but I grew up being told that she was the second. Still bitter about it.

We had one of the smallest families in our suburban Boston Baby-Boomer spawning ground. Mostly Irish, Italian and French Canadian catholics. A pal on mine had 14 brothers and sisters in a 3 bdrm, 1 bath house.
Three kids was considered a "small family".
