I have not seen my old DU girlfriend tjdee in years, and cannot remember the name of the DUer I proposed to right now. She is from Texas and has an MA. I remember that, and that she had some financial difficulties as well as no health insurance. Then there's the judge, what was her name again, who said she was looking. And, of course, yvrgirl, and redqueen, and xmas74, and southlandshari, and sapphire blue and omega minimo and newyawker99 (is she single? I have this rule about adultery, to keep either a god or a husband/boyfriend from squashing me like a bug) and miss honeychurch, and probably half a dozen I have forgotten, like lizziegrace, who mentioned me once, thus causing me to completely fall in love with her, and Darth Kitten, who is still mad at me for trying to joke with her, and xemasab, and revolutionaryacts04 if it wasn't for the fact that she's my DU twin sister. Truly, I am almost as bad as GoPsUx. So, you might not even be my 20th choice, even on DU, but you'd be Ms. Right-now.

First off, he was only 29 when he wrote the Communist Manifesto. Second, his purpose was that of freeing the masses. If his name and theories were co-opted by thugs like Stalin and Pol Pot (who I think gets kind of a bum rap) that is not the fault of Marx. Still, I prefer Fourier and the Fabian socialists, and their heirs RH Tawney and EF Schumacher, to his rigid adherence to dialetical materialism.

Writing about Marx sounds kinda like fun to me, but it also sounds like coals to Newcastle. Entire libraries could be filled with writings about Marx. My problem with some of it is that he is treated as some kind of Pope - infallible and all-knowing. Obviously the man was a giant, but not all that and a revolution. People end up studying Marx, instead of studying the economy and the world with a Marxian, that is a pro-worker, perspective.

Last paper was on Ricardo, next on is on Utilitarianism...I could sum up the answer to this particular question in just a few sentences, but it's gotta be a whole paper, ugh. Profits and Capitalist accumulation are derived from the capitalist extracting the surplus labor of the worker that is above and beyond what the worker requires for subsistence...In other words, the industrialist works slaves to the bone for a pittance, and sits back and counts his coins. :P
